Digital Foundry Article Technical Discussion [2024]

Yes it's 99% an API, not hardware, thing. It reminds me the NoAF problem in some early PS4 games.

Kena: Bridge of Spirits [PS4, PS5, PC, XBSX|S]

It's still a great charming game though. It has being an evergreen for long time on PS5 showing it's a game that is aging very well. This game reminded me Zelda a lot.

Ghost of Tsushima [PS4, PS5, PC]

CBR is not free, far from it. There are no tensor cores on PS4 Pro and PS5 to make CBR happen by magic. It costs more than 4K 30fps equivalent GPU rendering time.

I was responding to Iroboto. EDIT: I quoted you by mistake, sorry.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart [PS5, PC]

Can't they make a unified pool of memory even with being able to change CPU and GPU? Is it really not technically possible?

    PS5 Pro *spawn

Well, no. They are predicting some games would double their framerate, they never said anything similar on PS4 Pro. And about Ultra boost mode they are actually claiming it will be noticeable in games with DRS. Are you implying they are outright lying to the developers? It would be a bold...

    PS5 Pro *spawn

My guess is they'll replace the current 512MB of DDR4 with 2GB. Then allocate 1.2GB of GDDR6 to games, and give back 1.5GB of DDR5 to OS slow functions. Like memory needed to game recording and app switching. PS5 Pro could need more OS memory if they actually want to activate 8K output later.

Digital Foundry Article Technical Discussion [2024]

It has become defacto the new normal for PS5 players. Some game look blurry, true, but so does Hellblade 2 and at only half the framerate. But the point is framerate and diminushing returns that is starting to be noticed by a big amount of players even by mainstream gamers. When in motion 30fps...

Digital Foundry Article Technical Discussion [2024]

All Sony exlusive games (or 2nd party) have a 60fps mode. I think the only notable third party game being 30fps only is Gotham Knights (which bombed). The only 30fps only game at launch, that Ubisoft game, also bombed (and received a 60fps patch later). The vast majority of customers won't...

Digital Foundry Article Technical Discussion [2024]

Difference is The order 1886 was running at locked 30fps on a platform where many games didn't even run at that. Here the game runs at 30fps on a platform where the vast majority of games run at 60fps. Odd.

Predict: Next gen console tech (10th generation edition) [2028+]

People are not that gullbible though. With comparisons mvailable witha few clicks people can see the difference. it's how DLSS is sold mostly, not by numbers but because people are comparing Nvidia DLSS vs the others inferior solutions.

    PS5 Pro *spawn

Yes indeed. Based on Specs and the small CPU upclock a 5nm process would be logical. So the inevitable 4N shrink would still be quite cheap because of compatible processes and 5nm is cheaper than 4N. I could see PS5 Pro consuming ~250W based on how they improved their cooling solution in the...

    PS5 Pro *spawn

It's going to be a totally new layout from AMD with certainly some new silicon blocks. Lots of unknowns there including the node process (some think it could still be 7nm based on some specs), number of ROPs, clocks and how dynamic they'll be.

    PS5 Pro *spawn

RDNA3.5 has no traversal RT units. PS5 Pro is basically RDNA3.5 + RDNA4 traversal RT units (and AI TOPs units?). Sony will likely market this as "RDNA4 based GPU".

I spend too many hours in those arcade games!
