AMD Radeon VII Announcement and Discussion

By best you mean highest? Because there have been way better price/die-size ratios in the past. And may I remind you that GK104 on the GTX 680 was a fully enabled die?

AMD Radeon VII Announcement and Discussion

I don't know how old you all are, but I don't remember the last time a partially disabled 3 square cm die was released at 700 bucks.

120fps at 4k can still look fake

I think the OP wants games similar to the Far Cry 3 in Real Life short by Devin Graham, Leanna Pareja, Jacob Schwarz, and Clint Jones. Even at 360p, it's more realistic than any game ever made.

Correlation between process node, transistor count and die size.

AMD's disclosure on the actual transistor count of Tahiti to the single digit (https://twitter.com/AMDRadeon/status/362596332449439745) made me try to come with my own calculated transistor count of all the other 28 nm dies, even NVIDIA's. Some came quite close, others many hundreds off. Hawaii...

Is Vishera 8 Threads (AMD FX) a half disabled processor?

I've just found out that Abu Dhabi (Opteron 63xx) 16 threads processors have same lithography and die size of Vishera (AMD FX x3xx) 8 threads ones, leading me to think that even the most expensive FX model could still be a half-cut of the full Piledriver processor architecture. Am I wrong?

Nvidia BigK GK110 Kepler Speculation Thread

Why doesn't NVIDIA sell GK110 with more than 3 SMX disabled (not withstanding the rumored 790)? And why there are no GeForce GK110 with only 2 SMX disabled?

    Haswell vs Kaveri

Does anyone know transistor count of Intel's GT1, GT2, GT3 and GT3e? I've searched on some websites but they have conflicting values, like TechPowerUp's same number for both HD 2000 and HD 3000 and same for HD 2500, 4000, 4600 and Iris Pro 5200. Thanks.

    NVIDIA Maxwell Speculation Thread

So the only constraint would be chip yields... and my hefty price tags suddenly become a little less unrealistic.

    NVIDIA Maxwell Speculation Thread

800! What kind of power consumption and thermal dissipation would it have?

    NVIDIA Maxwell Speculation Thread

Staying on 28nm and improving efficiency will not give enough gain to justify debuting Maxwell at that node. If anyone could tell me how much theoretically would Kepler be faster than Fermi at the same 40nm process, I'd appreciate it.

    NVIDIA Maxwell Speculation Thread

You really think there wouldn't be anyone willing to buy a 700 mm2 chipped video card with a 4 slot cooling system at $2,000 for gamers and $10,000 for pros?

    Software/CPU-based 3D Rendering

I remember someone wanted to introduce a hardware dedicated card for A.I., just like Ageia with physics. But that would have meant extra $$ for an additional component. Both physics and A.I. on discrete didn't live because the benefits weren't there. When audio was took away from discrete...

    Intel extends AVX to 512-bit

If they kept only the Fixed Function Units for D3D compliance and widened the AVX directly to 1024 bit, wouldn't it be better/possible? So then, when D3D gets dumped they only take out the FFUs.

    Intel extends AVX to 512-bit

Why not make AVX available for the graphics pipeline too, in some way, and save die space while also debuting 1024 bit earlier?

Grid 2 has exclusive Haswell GPU features

Were the Sandy Bridge 6 EU models 16 flops/cycle too?
