    Good antivirus

My 2c... On my home PCs I use AVG free+adaware+hardware firewall. Used to use Trend Micro. Have had good luck with both. What I have had huge trouble with is windows update. ERK

    Large monitor recommendations

I would also check out the 24" HP if you haven't bought one already. It has a more glossy screen which is worse for glare, but you might like the look as I do. I only day before yesterday spent all morning scrutinizing screens at Fry's/BB and came home with an HP 22". ERK

    R6XX Performance Problems

Yes for Quincunx. For CFAA, that's not the case, AFAIK. Have a link? I thought CFAA was just MSAA but where the samples could be outside the "pixel box." Or do you mean applied over the whole scene in the same way MSAA is applied over the whole scene? Thanks, sorry to butt in. ERK

The G92 Architecture Rumours & Speculation Thread

Just on a quick tangent... My company is currently designing a chip that is 6.5cm x 6.5cm square (a giant multiplexer for hybrid imaging applications). We can fit 4 of them on an 8" wafer, and expect our yield to be <5% with cost at >$100k each. So...it can be done, for a price. ERK

fp16 render target affects MSAA quality?

On second thought, one more dumb question... Could the luminance information be rendered to a vertex buffer, then analyzed and passed to next frame? Thanks again, ERK

fp16 render target affects MSAA quality?

OK. Thanks for putting up with my ignorance.

fp16 render target affects MSAA quality?

Well, how is luminance calculated using a FP16 RT? I am thinking one would do it the same way, but HDR pixel luminance attributes would be recorded just before the tone mapping is done as last step in the shader, followed by writing to integer buffer. ERK PS. I guess I was thinking that...

fp16 render target affects MSAA quality?

But can't the luminance be accurately calculated and passed to the next frame instead of being used on an additional pass? ERK

G80 vs R600 Part X: The Blunt & The Rich Feature

I basically agree with you, DC. It's just a shame that Jawed has to take such flack from a lot of people who read something into what he said that he didn't really intend to mean... mostly some semantic argument over 'clever,' etc. I agree simple designs can be clever, but the Quake code is...

G80 vs R600 Part X: The Blunt & The Rich Feature

I sense some major miscommunication going on here, and it's probably just me  , but when I first read Jawed stating that G80 was not designed 'cleverly' (to paraphrase) what I took from that is that G80 followed the KISS methodology, whereas R600 engineers tried to be clever (perhaps too...

The advisory and totally non-binding Reputation Poll

My only comment about the previous system is that I don't think one's rep in a technical forum should be determined by one's politics. Thus I am in favor of rep by forum, or of isolating rep between tech/general forums. Not to mention post count. ERK

from the presentation I fail to understand how a multiplier (no matter how many bits) can take 150,000 gates to implement.
