Hmm, I'd like to see a comparison of Extreme Tessellation of the GTX480 vs the 5970.
AFAICT, HardwareCanucks did it in Normal mode where the 5970 still beats the GTX480.
And thus the HC server dies
So far it looks exactly where most people thought it would be: between the 5870 and 5970. So not a hilarious farce but rather a pretty solid entry.
I wonder how ATI will respond to this.
Noise levels seem pretty good
Card setting dBA IDLE dBA FULL LOAD
GeForce GTX 470 39 42
GeForce GTX 480 39 43
Tradeoff is the high temperatures. Reminiscent of the 48xx launch.
No you don't then. You seem to have it in mind that I'm comparing this to the ATI solutions. My comment is solely that I'm willing to trade off a lower level of tessellation in exchange for more FPS if the visual difference isn't very much. This comment holds true even if ATI doesn't have...
You misunderstand what I meant.
If uber tessellation (with the appropriate speed penalty) doesn't yield much visual differences, then having an higher FPS is preferable.
@the images
Extreme looks a lot nicer since they've put much more tessellation into the roof tiles. But it's more like...
Perhaps but if you had a choice of extreme tessellation 25FPS with little visible differences compared with 45FPS tessellation, which would you pick?
I'd really like to see the difference between extreme and normal Heaven 2.0 actually
I see now that Crysis will soon fall by the wayside as a benchmark because of that [/snark]
If this is the result of "nvidia bias" then the GTX480 is going to be rather underwhelming.
