No Fudo, CPU vendors just don't publically announce half-node lithographic shrinks on their products. In fact, video ASIC sellers are virtually alone in the industry in doing so.

That really may not matter as much as you think it does; Japan isn't the only place FF is sold. Final Fantasy X, for example, sold more copies in the US alone than in it did in Japan, so it's not entirely unreasonable to assume that international sales account for around 65-75% of FF's revenues.

Given how SO3 ended, I would be willing to bet that the series has more or less come to a close.

OpenGL and OpenVG are just software interfaces between the application and the hardware (or driver); they aren't really "wasteful" in any meaningful sense. There's no "OpenGL" silicon or "Direct3D" silicon.
