Xbox Live Spring Update

ORB is currently not working for me, but I haven't done any in-depth testing yet, it sees the connection but won't pull any movies.

I just posted something on MN and GS blogs about it. TVersity has a post in thier support forum about it. It looks like the 360 is just not seeing the video media anymore.

Over at teamxbox, there are a few reports of tversity not working now. I can't check the tversity forums since I am at work, however I will be pissed if this is true. I was just streaming some stuff this past weekend.

For the price, tversity just ca't be beat.

I wonder when they're gonna get a clue and allow you to delete items without requiring like 6 button presses.

When you're browsing content, both 'Y' and 'X' have no function, they should make one of them "Delete", and add a simple confirmation msg. It would make it so much easier to clear the junk out, something I never get around to doing because each item takes like 15 seconds.

Does this mean I'll actually be able to organize my streamed media in folders finally?? Halle-freakin-lujah...if true.

In terms of responsiveness, UI, sorting and reliability, 360 still can't hold a candle to XBMC using simple samba shares, pretty weak really.

I could have sworn X is delete with a confirm message following? At least with game demos it is... have not noticed on other content

I think it depends on your TV set an how it's VGA is set up. I have a Westinghouse 42w2 and the new settings make it way too dark -- even if I adjust the set's brightness/contrast. Things are lost in the shadows.

I think for my TV set, "Standard" is the correct one.

I find the virtual pat on the backs infantile.

And you're a gamer? Go figure. Must be/have been a Playstation owner. LOL

I suck at games evidently. So thus my low score, but I do love getting them "infantile" "pat on the back". :D

the dash is faster but I don't like how there's no panel repeated for the marketplace blade if you chose a gamer theme. overall a good update but I hope they re-release a The Darkness theme so I don't see bubbly m&m's whenever I go to the marketplace blade.

The lack of a theme for the Marketplace blade was intentional by Microsoft. The look will change based on seasons, holidays, sponsors, etc. I understand their reasonings for this. Gives them a chance to target buyers a lot easier. I don't see them changing the way themes work currently.

Overall a great update. VGA users should be quite happy to get this "washed out image" issues fixed.

Things I like:
New marketplace blade
Seeing the folder structure when you goto view your porn.....er......DATA!
Seeing what game is in the console
auto off after downloads complete

Haven't played around with the Live messenger integration but as with prior updates, MS is moving ahead well and most importantly listening to consumers and not just doing things on their own.

I like this update.

Finally it FEELS as if the fans don't go beltin' out full-on while I'm just sitting on the dashboard. I'm not 100% they actually are down to DVD player RPM but they don't seem to be howling like banshees anymore like they used to.

What I'd like to have seen was that:
1> MS made it so pressing UP when on topmost menu item brought the highlight to the lowermost item.

2> And that the item highlihgted by default isn't my fucking live profile but rather whatever is in the DVD slot at the moment. I don't go changing profiles every 5 minutes but I would like to play the disc I just put into the tray.

Especially as < 1 > isn' tyet implemented.

Other than those two minor items it's all great stuff.

The improved VGA quality is barely noticeable at least on my LCD TV but every bit helps I guess. I can see a differeince on the early scenes of Unforgiven - if I look for it - fro example. So it's doing something at least.

Auto power off downloading.. Do you really need that with broadband and all? Well maybe if you have slow broadband.. Still it's a cool feature I guess. I just wish they could have taken the 2 minutes tops it would have required to program the thing to flip from top to bottom of a menu..grr. Hehe.

I aven't tried any of the other stuff so I don' tknow how well it works. Video streaming and all of that. I don't need any of that stuff as I don't priate movies hehehe. Just jioking guys. I know all your vids are legit. ;)

Peace.

Seconded on my projector - I've never had quality issues. But it's great for the other guys anyway.

I don't get the way they've implemented the game recommendation / achievement bragging / etc. to message handling. It took me a while before I found it because it's only implemented in the Arcade part of the Dash AFAIK.

Wouldn't it be far easier and more consistent to put it under a button in the compare games / achievements screens? That way it works for all games, and because you're already comparing it knows who you want to send a message. Hit the button and you get the new message options, pick one, send.

Or did I miss anything?

I like the low power download mode. It allowed me to DL the Forza 2 demo this morning without having to leave the system on (I slept for another 20 minutes).

I don't need it with my 10Mbps broadband but how fast Microsoft's servers can feed my connection is another story.
- Low-power downloading (fans off) and auto-off after finishing queued downloads.
Fans still on for me in low-power downloading mode. What exactly is turned off besides the green power on lights?

Edit: And it seems the middle power symbol light doesn't turn off completely either. I just saw it blink.

Excellent! This was the first thing I'd thought of when news first broke of an upcoming update.
