*God Of War 3 Thread v2.0 + Interview Stig Asmussen

Also, one little thing abou the whole game... I thought these guys were Gods... I mean they just get beaten and thrown around like ragdolls most of the time. I guess that's the point of the game, but we went from God of War 1 where killing Ares was the big deal of the entire game and it was the climax of the entire game, to GOW3 where we slash through Gods like they were skeleton soldiers...
Well, that's sort of explained at the end, it's because of what you did at the end of the first GOW that the gods are easier to kill now.

True, true. Still it would have been nice if all God boss fights were as huge and amazing as Poseidon. That really was something else, the rest of the game never reached those heights, with some exceptions. Even Zeus was a lot less impressive than that first chapter, and really he should have been THE massive boss in the game.

Jesus... I started playing on Titan difficulty and not only i died like a hundred times at Poseidon, but i just could not get through the 3 challenges the first time you get to the Three Judges stage. Just could not get past the second challenge and i bucked to the pressure, went on 'Easy', turned on all items and off i went to the end in a few hours  I'm so weak.

Yeah, Titan seems to be a notch harder than God modus!
But, although I really usually don't care for trophies, this time I want Billy's third Platinum Trophy (hint: Billy's first two Platinum trophies are GOW I+II ;-))

I though it was unnecessary, but at least it contributed to the storyline (even though the story pretty much sucked). Obviously both scenes are in their respective games to generate controversy and media attention.

I took more offense to the calculated sadistic murder of an overly sexualized and defenceless woman for absolutely no purpose
(unless you consider performing menial tasks like opening doors suitable)
, more offensive than a group of villains murdering people in a contrived Tom-Clancy-esque plot to put two nations at war. COD gives you the option of skipping that scene, where the scene in God of War 3 has to be completed to continue in the game. And think about the trophy, "I didn't do it ... but I wish I did!", that you receive upon completion. What do you think that means?

...you're crazy. Sorry. I really refuse to take anything you say seriously if you took more offense to this, and little to no offense to killing dozens of innocent civilians in an airport.

The nudity really isn't an issue here, and really should have no impact on weather or not you killed her, or how that made you feel. You're just being dramatic, god knows why. I mean, if THIS is calculated and sadistic, then what in the hell is shooting dozens of people in an airport? A joyride? Spur of the moment? "Whoops sorry I shot your parents little guy!"? Please...

Kids, behave... We all have different tastes and should respect that.

So what if someone likes to rape and not kill? Is he better than someone who likes to kill kids but not women??

Come on, let's keep it civil. They're bloody videogames... No pun intended.

We probably covered this, but now that it's been released, i just wanted to post my appreciation for the image quality of God of War 3. By far the cleanest looking thing that has come out of my TV, next to Bluray movies.
Sure, there might be a jaggy here and there (for reasons that have been covered already) but mostly it is just perfect. And not blurry perfect like some games. It's jaggy-less but sharp as nails.
Even shaders have none of the jagginess that plagued games like Uncharted 2 (which is still amazing-looking).
Everything just looks perfect, textures and shaders look sharp and 'stable'.

Amazing.

One of the most entertaining boss battles ever:
Herkules!
I think that they modeled him with Hulk (yeah the green one) in their minds! How he looks and how he walks and fights, reminded me of Hulk.
But what really wowed me:
the last phase of the fight, when he tries to dodge your attacks, by using some ultra cool wrestle animations - it was so cool that I 'danced' with him a few minutes in my second play through, just to see it over and over again!!
I also think that Herkules is one of the graphical highlights...because he was superb looking model with all the flexing muscles. During the battle, Herkules is also heavily affected by the battle blood, like Kratos, after a while both look like after taking a blood shower

General, my experience during playing this game:

first boss. me: ok, this is the best boss battle I ever had.
second boss. me: ok, this is the best boss battle I ever had. it even tops the other one...
third boss. me: ok, this....

If you guys ask me,
Poseidon, Hades, Herkules, Kronos
are the top 4 boss battles in video games!

I guess that's a cultural thing what is considered appropriate. I didn't see porn there or even much gore. It's all in players head in that case. Nothing sexual was shown or happened in the scene. If thought was sex everybody would have several rape charges every day while seeing some beautiful people on the streets, tv, whatever. Kratos killed that lady and did no other harm to her. Just one of the many deaths in that game.

Gore porn meaning gratuitous fetishized gore. It doesn't mean actual sexual pornography. Like the term torture porn is sometimes used to label movies like SAW, and war porn is used for films like Blackhawk Down etc.

Well, the scene in Call of Duty is meant to be portrayed as an atrocity, from what I could tell, and it was used to further the nonsensical story. It was definitely unnecessary and I'm sure they put it in just for the media attention. The scene in God of War has absolutely nothing to do with anything. That's the issue I have with it. It's just there to be gratuitous. I'm fairly sensitive to the way women are portrayed in games, and I thought that scene was in extremely bad taste.

I guess we can't sit here and argue morality with eachother, so we'll all have to agree to disagree. I only mentioned it because I thought there might be other people that wouldn't want to play through that part of the game, or let their kids play through that part of the game.

Whatever it was, it's probably there for the target audience.

I'd be surprised if people let their kids play the game at all after seeing the demo. The game is rated mature or adult-only anyway.

The Christian Science Monitor reviewed GoW3 here:
http://www.csmonitor.com/Innovation/Horizons/2010/0316/God-of-War-3-review-roundup

Warning to parents and squeamish gamers: This game is an adults-only adventure. Much like the vindictive Nazi hunters in Quentin Tarantino's "Inglourious Basterds," Kratos chooses a very bloody path toward vengeance. The body count is steep; the causes of death are brutal. "God of War 3" earns its Mature rating almost immediately and never looks back.

This is one game I kept locked up in the office, in case I bring it home accidentally. This is also the game right now where my gaming friends at work want to see for themselves.

Ah, that's the thing. Thanks for the heads up on the terminology.

I just got my copy of the game from Amazon. Great looking game. Fantastic looking even. Lots of fun too. I really like the offensive focus of the battle system. Moves seem to flow better into each other than in the 2 prequels.
Better looking than Uncharted 2 though? - nah, not a chance. The game does large scale stuff incredibly well, but in terms of attention to smaller details (unless we're talking gore) and animation, U2 frankly beats the crap out of it.

Upon beating the game, I still think GOW2 impressed me more. A lot of GOW3 is in dark places like Hades and caverns that look similar from an art standpoint. GOW2 had much more varied environmental art starting with the city of Rhodes to Hades, to the frozen mountains and caves, to the temple of Lahkesis, then to the steeds of time, temple of Euryale, the jungle with the barbarian, the Bog, then through the lowlands and waterways, back to the super shiny floors of Destiny's Atrium, through the moving vines and more time based puzzles which I loved, towards the epic scene of crossing the lowlands and icarus fight, then all the way down to Atlas, then the palace of the fates and finally Zeus. I thought it was an epic journey, more varied than GOW3.

Really enjoyed what I've played so far but I've got as far as the
music puzzle
and am defeated. I have arthritis and found the R1+L1 button mashing quite hard, but this section is beyond my dexterity. lol!

It would have been nice to see a bit more of the game but I'll have to youtube that. Cool graphics though!

Not saying I approve of GoW3's gore. I haven't completed the game yet. I kinda got the drift when the demo was bundled with the District 9 Blu-ray release.

Not sure I get you. . .

I haven't played the new one yet but prior God of War entries certainly did not strike me as political satires in any way.

Cheers

The textures in GOW3 are actually a lot sharper than the ones from Uncharted 2 in general, but one can argue U2 has got more objects in the levels especially the Nepal level. Although the first hour of GOW3, the Cronos stage and the ending level are vastly superior than anything found in U2 to me:).

I didn't think that puzzle required any R1+L1 button mashing. I thought it was just the face buttons.
