Your 2H 2008 Gaming Calendar and Budget

PARANOiA

My gaming budget is shadow of its former self (RE1 reference FTW ;) ) due to the fact that I've just bought my first house. I'm a little concerned now given my primary hobby isn't exactly the cheapest around, so I'm having to begin planning my purchases in advance so I can put the necessary pennies aside.

Having said that, 2008 looks to be another good year for gaming. This is a little surprising, given 2007 was likely the best gaming year of all time - I would have thought the barrel would be a little more dry, but no!

So, let's use this thread to detail your planned purchases for the rest of the year. You can potentially help me build my budget (via games I've forgotten), while also helping to build your anticipation levels.

My year looks like:
For the foreseeable future:
Age of Conan. I love it - it fixes a lot of the annoyances I have with MMO's, and while it's not perfect it's taking up most of my gaming hours.

My release dates are coming from http://www.gpstore.com.au/Games/Schedule/Xbox-360/06-2008/Coming-Soon/ - so hopefully they're reasonably accurate. Let me know if I'm messing up anything obvious.

June:
Ninja Gaiden 2 - already bought from PlayAsia for a low, low price.
July:
Soul Calibur 4 - I expect this to be a top notch fighter
August:
Too Human - This is a maybe... after trying Titan Quest, its expansion, Sacred and Hellgate, I really, really want a good Diablo-esque game. Hopefully it turns out well.
September:
Riddick - I think this is tentative, since it's been off the radar for quite a while
Fallout 3 - I would be surprised if it wasn't pushed back, but this is potentially my GOTY. Excitement levels are through the roof.
October:
Fable 2 - Fairly straight-forward
November:
Gears 2 - If it's as good as the first, I'm in.
Viva Pinata 2 - The original is up there with my top five games ever.
PoP - Looks great, hopefully it's more SoT than WW.
December:
Banjo - This is a maybe... I'm hoping for it, but there's precious little out there in terms of how it plays. Fingers crossed!

So that's it. A pretty pricey year again. I don't think I've missed anything major, and I'm sure a few of these will slip. The beauty of these lists - Arwin has a 2007 thread in a similar vein IIRC - is rereading them and seeing what surprised and met all your expectations, and what did not.

What's your gaming calendar looking like?

With three kids my budget is shrinking.

Alternatively, one can use the IGN release dates page for NA and other regions.
http://pc.ign.com/index/release.html
http://ps3.ign.com/index/release.html
http://wii.ign.com/index/release.html
http://xbox360.ign.com/index/release.html
etc.

(The GH: Aerosmith release date seems to be different for AUS)

June
Ninja Gaiden 2 - I'll get it whenever Amazon.ca gets its stock because apparently they didn't get any yet.
Guitar Hero: Aerosmith - This is a maybe... I know I'll get it eventually though. Maybe when GH4 arrives.

August
Too Human - I'm a sucker for RPG and the story has me intrigued.

September
Chronicles of Riddick - I didn't play the original, but I might get it.
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed - I'm considering it.

October
Fable 2 - as I said, I'm a sucker for RPG, and I liked the first game.
Project Origin - I will wait until it goes <$40 on PC
Dead Space - I love horror games.

November
Red Alert 3 - I will wait until it goes <$40 on PC
Gears of War 2 - There will be blood!
Guitar Hero 4 - I won't be getting the drums.
Tomb Raider: Underworld - I will wait until it goes <$40 on PC

MGS4 - pre-ordered through amazon.ca, can't wait.

Resistance 2 - loved the first, can't wait for the second

Orange Box - or at least EP2 as i already have EP1 and HL2 and don't really care for TF2

Guitar Hero 4 - finally got to try rock band and i enjoyed it more than i thought. the drums in GH4 look way better though.

Far Cry 2 - looks great visually, but i'm going to see if the gameplay matches.

Project Origin - enjoyed FEAR, so i might pick this up too.

Chronicles of Riddick - big maybe... actually, probably won't pick this up, but its on my radar.

BF BC - demo was ok. i might pick this up if it turns out to be good. edit: tried the multiplayer and it was really fun.

BioShock - from what i've seen, it doesn't interest me too much. but if its priced lower when it releases on PS3, i might consider it.

edit: RE5 if it makes 2008 :)

Gears 2 - for sure
Fable 2 - probable
Orange Box - maybe (kinda better suited for the PC I'd guess)
Far Cry 2 - maybe

Still have to play catch up:

Bioshock
Mass Effect
Call of Duty 4
Assassin's Creed

And that's already enough to keep me busy this year. I'd rather spend the rest of my money on a new 46-50 inch 1080p plasma TV :)

My radar currently consists of:

Just got NG2 and GRID... Loving those.
MGS4 - Looks awesome, but leery of the weird style
Soulcalibur IV - Must play now.
Madden 09 - Actually looks good this year.
Too Human - Waiting for reviews to come in.
Brothers in Arms - Feels right.
Bionic Commando - Based on what little I've seen, I'm in.
NBA 2K9 - Big fan of the series
Fable 2 - Automatic
Fallout 3 - Automatic 2
LBP - The other PS3 game I want.
Halo Wars - Intrigued enough but where's Starcraft 2?
Gears 2 - Automatic 3

On my gaming radar:

VF5R - A nice upgrade. I'm hoping for console or PC version but arcade is pretty good too.

SF4 - Doesn't look too promising from what I can see but still in development, but probably get it on PC if it turns out to be good.

KOFXII - Looks promising. Probably get it on PS3 or PC, but arcade is fine too.

Tekken 6 - good diversion from VF5R once in a while.

Maybe Hulk if the review is good, but the rest of superheroes games have been bad and this isn't done by the Ultimate Destruction people, so I will wait and see. If it is good I might get it for PC.

That's pretty much it for 2008 and early 2009.

yea, seriously NavNucST3 . i love your style. :)

And I'll probably snag 1 or 2 sports games (Madden/NHL perhaps).

I think this has been officially pushed to 2009.
(regarding halo wars)

There's never been an official release date announced, there's been no announced delay. That said, when it's going to come out is anyones guess.

June:
Gears of War Refresh (Never played the entire game)

July:
Nothing?

August:
Too Human (big maybe)

September:
NHL 09
Lego Batman (big maybe. I did really enjoy the Star Wars ones)

October:
Fable2 (How will I find time to play this alongside Fallout3?)
Fallout3 (How will I find time to play this alongside Fable2?)
FIFA 09 (maybe)

November:
Gears of War 2
Left 4 Dead (YES!!!!!)

There are some back titles on the 360 I might pickup to fill in the gaps, and there are probably some smaller titles that will be worth a look when I find out more about them.

There is absolutely nothing I want for the Wii in the 2nd half. That's so disappointing. I'd actually found a good number of games to play up until now. Maybe Deadly Creatures?

June

For PS3:
Metal Gear Solid: Guns Of The Patriots 4
Buzz Quiz TV

For PSP:
Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII

November

For PS3:

December:

I have the Wii too, but haven't yet seen anything scheduled for rest of 2008 that would interest me.
