I've seen numerous posts here that contain shader code that was captured from an application, and I'd like to know how it's done. I'm assuming it's something with the DX9 SDK, but I really have no idea.

I think 3DAnalyzer can extract OGL shaders,don't know if it works with D3D application.

Sure, HLSL is compiled to asm and passed to standart SetXxxShader API entry point.
