Hi, I just received a new Gateway P4 2Ghz 700x box and am setting it up with WinMe (dual-booting with XP too).

In WinMe, I've loaded the WinMe Livewire3 drivers and all I get is hissing/static. I can barely, barely hear the sound if I try hard. Everything appears to be setup correctly, but nothing but hissing/static.

I've tried two PCI slots with same results.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for any help!

It could be your motherboard.

I don't presume its a Via motherboard? There have been quite a few reported problems with SB Live's and Via boards.

Maybe you should try looking for a BIOS update. That could fix the problem. Alternatively upgrading your motherboard drivers could fix the problem as well.

The SB Live works great in XP on the same system (dual-boot). The Live works great with no hissing or static in XP.

The problem is in WinME. I've tried disabeling SB16 legacy support, but that didn't help. My next experiment will be to try and change the IRQ being used...

I fixed it! I was on the edge of defeat too!

Creative has a 5MB "update" for WinME for the Live Value. I installed it and the sound works perfectly!

I'd be inclined to blame Win ME

That OS sucks
