Seems like overclocking performance is decent. 15% or so anyway.

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/AMD/HD_7970/31.html
Drivers and/or BIOS needs some work, same 3D clocks on BluRay, and even higher volts? (also, i know this is 7900 thread, but wth, whole 6000-lineup performance seems to be subpar with 11.12, even 5850 beats 6870 now

Just started the Techpowerup review, and I have one comment: I saw through that sweet spot nonsense years ago. I kind of wish they had justified it a bit better, though I might be alone in that. This new GPU is pretty big(Though not Nvidiaesce huge, thank god), and likely better for it.

I am really please with what AMD delivered this time.
The two small wishes that remain can be remedied via driver: supersampling option for DX10/11 and downsampling support.

Not to over-duplicate the other thread, but the 7970 CFX is the first to push near-max settings on 3x 19x12 monitors - very slick.

Looks like transcendentals are "slow", based on the fire and mineral benchmarks as the speed-ups here are in the region of 30%. Parallax occlusion mapping and fur shaders, seem very happy, with ~2x performance over HD6970. Branching (looping) seems to be the win here. Tessellation also looks much healthier, though insane tessellation factors are still hurting.

I see some sites are using LuxMark for GPGPU benching, and it appears that for the last few driver releases by NV the performance in this particular ray-tracing benchmark has dropped dramatically. It's weird, considering that in other CUDA and OCL RT renderers the performance seems to be just fine on Fermi. Still GCN is going very strong in RT rendering.

Anandtech has chosen a different test scene for its benchmark, "Our next benchmark is SmallLuxGPU, the GPU ray tracing branch of the open source LuxRender renderer. We’re now using a development build from the version 2.0 branch, and we’ve moved on to a more complex scene that hopefully will provide a greater challenge to our GPUs."
So, any chance that LuxMark has recently been changed and is using a more complex scene?

The hosting site haven't been updated with new version of the benchmark.

Well, in AMD's defense Q is vastly improved even if HQ still shimmers (

In the past this site has used out of date performance data for the older cards in the comparison, so beware.

The link says it is a hardware error that was carried over architecture over architecture. This confirms the prior assumptions about the nature of the error .
What really annoys me , is how much this problem gets down played by many technicians and reviewers when it was clearly evident in some games , recent of them is Skyrim , IMO something like that should not be ignored . |
