Default Upgrading a Mac with an SSD

I've finally got round to buying an SSD for my Mac. I've done a load of research online to make sure it's compatible (SATA3 disk on a SATA2 port) and works in my particular Mac. On top of it working at a basic level, is there anything else I need to do to make OS X play nice with an SSD? Does it support TRIM and all of that stuff OK, or do I need to worry about filling it up?

I'm new to the SSD thing and haven't really kept up to date with the state of the art in storage for a while now, so excuse the newbieness

It's OS X Lion if that helps.

Cheers!

Afaik, Lion does TRIM automatically on ssds, but I'll poke around on the wife's MBA & see what I see.

Yeah, Apple doesn't enable TRIM for 3rd party Solid State Drives by default.

But it can be enabled.

Why is it disabled for 3rd party? Is this the usual Apple wants to charge you 3 times as much "genuine" that they've done since forever?

Thanks for the link, Pressure! I should finally get the missing screwdriver I need to have a go at the upgrade today, so I'll post. Knowing me I'll put the LCD back in upside down and my cats will leave footprints all over the interior of the glass.
