I think it is pretty close to LBP2 (which personally I never had a problem with), though these days level designers are much better with making sure that the type of platforming you do agrees with the physics driven nature of sackboy's movement (so generally, no jumping from moving stuff ). Levels I've played make pretty fun use of combinations of touch and regular controls, or, quite often for smaller experiments, just touch, and while not everything feels as smooth as a native iphone touch game, the breadth of what's on offer already is quite astounding.

I have no experience with Split Second on PSP though I hear it was pretty decent. I actually owned Prince of Persia on UMD, and back then I thought it was very impressive, played it more than the PS2 version, and the only real downside were the load-times, which are likely not an issue with the digital version on Vita. If I remember correctly all of them were ported to PSP.

I don't know how well it has held up over time though. GAF has a whole thread for the PSP game sales.

Not a game by the way, but really happy with how the Youtube app turned out. Looks and runs great, and I can now easily hand the Vita to my son instead of the iPad (or vice versa) depending on what I want to be able to use myself.

Running them side by side also a good reminder of that while the Vita is stereo, the sound in the iPad has very good bass, and while the iPad has a great screen, at 50% brightness (which is the most useful default for iPad in terms of battery, eye fatigue etc.) the Vita stands out.

The 3ds speakers don't sound too shabby either (unfortunately the shielding on the headphone jack is inadequate to say the least). Still, considering how tiny the Vita speakers are I'm pretty happy with the sound. Definitely nowhere near as tinny as the PSP. The system is generally hooked up to my high-end Klipsch IEMs anyway, and then the audio is pure bliss.

offtopic, but this is really true. The iPad (2?) sound has good bass indeed. I lolled so hard at some android friends who were saying the ipad killer of that month, i believe the transformers asus, would blow the ipad out of the water, because it had stereo speakers..
So then we did some comparing at the ipad seemed like a audiophile system in comparison

what the vita does with it's speakers is amazing as well: I was able to hear the compression on the voices in Uncharted (but that could also be because of the Dutch dub having lower quality). In any way, Vita sounds amazing as well.

I have been playing mgs hd collection for some time now. MGS2 game mechanics feel pretty annoying by today's standards and the game has been causing me a lot of frustration. But when it' good it's really good just like the ps2 version. Overall as MGS fan I'm happy with the game but I can see how someone new to the series could think the game is utter rubbish

I wish they had updated some of the game mechanic to be more context aware like if enemy is approaching you and you pull a gun+first person view the view should be towards enemy not the damn wall(only sometimes though). The game requires you to plan ahead and execute instead of run&gunning(which fits the game but makes "playability" horrible for the COD crowd)

Graphics wise the game is ok. but there is frequent slowdowns during action which I don't remember being present on ps2 version. Slowdowns don't affect the actual game play too much, it' more of a cosmetic thing.

Haven't yet tried mgs3 so comment on that one later.

Overall, I would recommend this to patient people who are willing to plan ahead while playing instead of looking for run&gun type of a game. If you didn't like mgs earlier you will definitely not like it on vita and vice versa.

Well, it shouldn't have to appeal to the CoD crowd. About a million other developers have been trying to crack that nut for the better half of a decade now. I say leave MGS alone with the disease that is gentrification.

You always aim into the direction Snake is (as opposed to the way the camera) facing, by the way. Easy enough to get used to really.
Quite frankly, the game just wouldn't work with a modern control scheme. It was built with the overhead camera in mind. (see MGS The Twin Snakes for a good example of poor design: Snake essentially inherited the entire MGS2 move set, but the rest of the game's design wasn't adjusted accordingly. You could just aim in first person and put every guard on Shadow Moses to sleep without any troubles whatsoever. It was boring as hell)

The slow downs were in the PS2 version as well, by the way.

On a completely different note-. Isn't it amazing how relevant the story of MGS2 is in 2012? The game basically predicted SOPA.
I also have to say that I like the story much more now than I did 10 years ago. Probably because I got it right away. I remember how the final codec transmission from the Colonel used to bore the shit out of me, but this time around I found it fascinating. It's just as convoluted, self-indulgent, and badly in need of a ruthless editor like it was 10 years ago, but it's still thought provoking, daring and surprisingly smart at times. It's also written a lot better than I expected.

MGS3 is also fantastic.

The collection also got me to play MGS4 again. Still the same master piece it's always been. An eccentric and quirky art game disguised as an enormous block buster (and far and away my favorite game on the PS3) with unmatched production values that are just off-the-charts bat shit insane.

Don't ever change, Kojima-San

I wanted to give fair warning to those people who were not familiar with the game

I wish I still had my ps3 so I could replay mgs4 too. It was an awesome game.

It's also great proof that trophies are no replacement for actual replay value by virtue of varied gameplay and useful bonus features. That game is just packed with extra goodies. The entire series is. I just hope MGS Risng will at least retain a little bit of that magic. Sure, a fun acton game with great core mechanics is always a nice thing to have, but it's also a rather modest goal for such an ambitious series.

Finished first run of mgs2 on hard. Just awesome for most part. Previous post aside my biggest gripe is the difficulty level that is just weird, most of the time the game on hard is pretty easy(even if playing so that being spotted causes game over) but then the boss battles suddenly are super hard for me. Had to cheat on those by exploiting some flaws because playing the real way I was just getting my ass handed down

I think second play through will be better because I'm again accustomed to the peculiarities of mgs2 control scheme. One place I have to say though was evil was the sniping bombs from the bridge part. I remembered location of one well hidden bomb from ps2 and I would have never, ever found it on vita version unless I knew where it was. Shooting the bomb required using the backpanel to tiptoe raiden in order to be able to see the bomb(and the backpanel control scheme wasn't explained anywhere...).

The bosses get really insane on extreme. Finished MGS2 at that difficulty setting way back when on the PS2. I have no desire to do it again.

I got Pinball Arcade yesterday (finally released here), and must say I'm pleasantly surprised by how smooth it runs (much better than on my iPad 3), and how fun some of the tables are. The shoulder buttons play WAY better than the iOS Touch version by the way. Huge difference.

I do agree with some of the criticisms though, that the physics seem flat (haven't compared them with the PS3 version yet, but they are supposed to be better). And there are some small flaws with the UI that should be ironed out - auto-save is good, but it shows a dialog when that is complete, which is totally unnecessary and ugly looking. On the other hand, the high-scores, including for friends, load super-fast, which is as it should be, but it still stands out. Picked patsu as my 'rival' at the moment though for Arabian Nights I think I accidentally beat everyone on my friend's list with some distance after a few tries.

I love Theater of Magic and Arabian Nights. Black Hole has its charms as well. Ripley's seems more in line with the more over-designed and borderline incomprehensible tables the Zen Studios keep on pumping out.
The Zen Pinball 2 update should come out in July as well, meaning tons of free table content for my Vita.
Good times for Pinball fans.

By the way, the (much prettier) PS3 version of The Pinball Arcade is nigh unplayable due to the insane flipper lag for me.

Is your PS3 on 1080p or 720p? I notice this game supports both and then it can make a difference. I personally don't notice a big difference, but the ball physics on the PS3 seem to be running better making everything slightly less predictable. And yeah, transparancy seems better. I really like vibration function on the consoles though, but after that although playing sideways on the Vita looks a bit better, I love the shoulder buttons too much to give them up. This makes it also my preferred version even over my iPad 3 versioin. Yay for buttons! Also love the left analog stick for tilt i. All directions. Probably the first game in a long time where I've started using tilt to save the ball.

I hate Black Hole - it's historically interesting but don't like playing it. Beat my friend's list on all the others though.

I don't actually feel the Zen Pinball tables are that different from the crazy stuff in Arabian Nights and Theatre of Magic to be honest, but I look forward to having them both So far have been playing the game more than I expected. Theatre of Magic table seems to be too easy though, playing on that one starts taking a long time. Unlocked all the basic goals for it, but pleased to find there's a set of advanced goals too.

Reviews for LittleBigPlanet Vita are out, and they're averaging about 90% so far ... Here's a link to Edge's review (9/10):

http://www.edge-online.com/reviews/l...-review?page=2

Can't wait! I've often thought it would be perfect on Vita, the beta seemed to confirm that, and now the reviews do too

The LBP beta was pretty amazing so I can't wait for this to be released next week. I just hope Sony promotes this properly as this could be a real system seller!

How Gravity Rush targeted a global audience without selling its soul
http://www.edge-online.com/features/...ling-its-soul/

Quote:
In 2009, veteran game designer Keiji Inafune famously stood in front of his peers at the Tokyo Game Show and told them, “Japan is over. We’re done. Our game industry is finished”.

It was a frank recognition that the country had lost its way, concentrating on insular RPGs, mech battlers and arcade conversions, when the rest of the world was playing Call of Duty and Grand Theft Auto. The comment seemed to kickstart a period of soul-searching and desperation in which great franchises like Bionic Commando were farmed out to Western studios while the likes of Resident Evil and Final Fantasy were increasingly re-thought for global audiences; usually with disastrous consequences.

Fast forward to 2012 and a new era is beginning. At the recent CEDEC 2012 event in Yokohama (reported by 4Gamer), the writer and producer of Gravity Rush gave a fascinating talk on how Japanese developers can create games that appeal to both native and Western audiences – without abandoning local eccentricities, without selling out. Does anyone know how transfarring works for MGSHD?

I want to play like this:
-start game on PS3, big boss hard (of course). earn some trophies
-transfer to PSV, continue playing, earning trophies
-transfer to PS3, continue playing, earning trophies
-etcetera

Is it possible to play/complete the game like this, while earning all the trophies??
