Is there a new console? A Wii with HD output? Are they going to show us at E3?
As is Nintendo fashion, hardware is not important only money, ehmm the experience is.

There is a new console somewhere and it powers everything and the reason EA was there, Nintendo now has "current" hardware that can run EA´s Current games

Hope that tech demo is really representative of games, it looked fantastic to me. The third party games will be early ports so I wouldn't expect them to look much different to the 360/PS3 versions.
Hey! No need to call names! That was just speculation on my part before I saw the footage of the new games.
Engadget seems to have some info on the console already, a picture at least...

They should have some beefed up console somewhere hidden. Unless they have something else under their sleeve.

The epilogue of their conference raised questions than answer

Vindicated ! the tablet use case. We spoke about THQ's uDraw tablet too.
Lot's of ideas from Nintendo's Wii U trailer.

Both Vita and WiiU controller can easily be a universal remote.

A few minutes ago on e3.nintendo.com they had a demo of the WiiU being used but it was just with a regular Wii. So I guess it can be used with the current Wii console and with it's successor.

Did they say anything about the size of the next console?

I wonder what the price is going to be for the controller.
Sony can use the Vita in similar ways if not identical. The price tag though is what will prohibit expanding the Vita to WiiU uses

Anyone noticed if the screen was multitouch or not?

No new console? High def and improvied visuals on WiiU screen?
What happened there I am not sure

Basically it was a new peripheral announcement so far
Are you serious?

I love that combined Wiimote + WiiU use for golf game. That was the problem for John Daly ProStroke Golf. I looked up to joke with friends, and forgot where the ball was when I looked down again.

In the picture it looks smaller than Wii.
Edit: Actually it's bigger, I remembered the Wii larger than it really is.

I'm sorry but did you actually pay any attention? It's obvious that there is a whole new console behind all this, they just didnt announce it because just as with wii, its all about the controller. Just showing a new box and telling everybody its ''uber fast'' isnt going to do anything. Anyway, they showed a whole bunch of videos and from what I could tell it looked like pc versions of those games so no way it's just a souped up wii with a hdmi connector. As those games are just ports/early versions I'm pretty sure the new system is quite a bit more powerfull that ps360.

Something I'm more interrested in though is controller battery life & price. It certainly doesn't look like your average 50 dollar controller (even if in reality it probably doesnt even take 10 bucks to build a normal controller)

Sorry man but common.. It was clear when they showed the short Zelda tech demo and when reggie said "this is what the new system can do" and showed that flight demo that this thing is leagues ahead of Wii,

Huh.. I don't get it...

The graphics they showed with the bird flying didn't look that much better than the current Wii graphics. The water effect wasn't great, they were using alpha to coverage on the tree, looked like no AA.

The Darksiders footage also looked like it was very low poly.

Exactly ! Many people thought the set up is expensive, but if Nintendo can solve that problem... it's actually a barrier of entry and a strong differentiator... even compared to Apple's stuff.

It's a controller for Wii? Or have we got another announcement to look forwards to? Basically Wii U is a fusion tablet controller. It's a mixed idea. The end result is too multi-personality-disorder for my tastes. I'd rather use something classy like a Galaxy Tab for some of the stuff shown. And some of the other stuff is contrary to the original Wii idea. Aiming with a screen and pushing a button to throw a ball is more intuitive than virtually throwing with the Wiimote? I expect Nintendo to produce some good crossover content, but I don't see the value of this beyond extending the Wii experience. Although in that respect it looks very usable, what Sony should have been doing, and also ironic considering Nintendo kept saying they were only about games!

Did the footage actually run on the new controller? Is it possible the controller has more processing power than Wii, on par with PS Vita.
That would not seem likely though, unless it's possible to run the same games on the base console with lower specs and better on the controller/console.
The bird demo did look better than what is capabnle on Wii, but at the same time it looked suspisciously low-res and had a lot of shimmering and pop-in. You can see the fence pop in by the road as the bird zooms down.

Ha ha... perhaps it's based on OnLive-style tech for HD games ? It will change the business model and perhaps even lower game price. ^_^

At the end of the day, graphics is just eye candy. They don't need raw power if they don't want to explore high end concepts like Eyedentity, Magic Mirror Sony presented at PS3 launch.

1 - There is a new console called Wii-u:

2 - There is a new controller:

It has:
- 6.2" touchscreen (single-touch afaik)
- dual analog controls, d-pad, 4 buttons and 4 shoulder buttons
- front and back facing cameras
- accelerometer and gyroscope
- stereo speakers
- 3.5mm stereo jack (not seen but described through a developer comment)

3 - Wii-u console is able to do graphics that look way better than anything I've seen in X360 or PS3, at least from what I've seen in the bird&pond video, even more if it's being done in 1080p

4 - Wii-u uses Wiimotes, nunchucks, Wii balance boards, etc

5 - Backwards-compatibility with Wii titles.

6 - Four-player-per-console limit has been raised:

In a post-presentation demo on nintendo site I saw examples of a 3D game being rendered full on a HDTV with 4-player split-screen while a 5th player joined the game with the new controller, and the new controller had 3D game rendering too.

Has the wii what it takes to feed the controller? Isn't it only Wifi G? Does it even has the power to encode and stream anything while doing the rendering?

Beginning to think I'm in the twightlight zone here.. Again it was said several times that everything shown on the controller is generated on the console and streamed to the controller.
