Vehicle Dynamics in DUST 514
http://blog.us.playstation.com/2011/...s-in-dust-514/

Quote:
Vehicle classes in DUST 514 resemble modern day battlefield armored vehicles but are more menacing…and multitudes more lethal. You can also customize the vehicles with weapons and modules to ensure highly dynamic and constantly evolving gameplay where no single vehicle can impose absolute supremacy. The ultimate goal is to create an experience where players make meaningful choices based on their surroundings and situations when deploying vehicles.

There's nothing else they can announce for this game that won't have me buy it day one.

I mean they had me at Move support

Dropsuits in DUST 514
http://blog.us.playstation.com/2011/...s-in-dust-514/

Quote:
Infantry dropsuits are designed to protect and sustain the wearer in even the harshest environments. Different dropsuits offer specific bonuses to speed, mobility, defense and configurability. Like starships and planetary vehicles, dropsuits come in a variety of shapes and sizes, each with a unique slot configuration and powergrid (PG) and CPU that inform the decisions you make when customizing your chosen dropsuit.

The number and type of slots determine the modules (interchangeable hardware components that enhance or otherwise alter the functionality of the dropsuit), weapons, and equipment you can fit. The slot types available on dropsuits are as follows:
Light
Heavy
Sidearm
High
Low
Equipment
Grenade

It seems like an odd time to introduce this, unless they're planning to release a prettified, compatible version on the PS4. One thing about PC MMOs is you don't have to keep your 2004 box around to play WoW.

How hard is it to port though ? We have seen other devs port PS3 levels to Vita for testing purposes, and of course PS2 to PS3 HD games.

Porting can be hard depending on how much money u want to spend..

It also depends completely on hardware architecture. Say this is designed for the cell (I dunno if this is true) and Sony ps4 has a completely different CPU. Suddenly u find urself having to rewrite the entire code

Is this not based on the unreal engine, maybe they can "easily" drop in assets and scripts etc for the next-gen when the engine gets the platform update?

Sony mulls PS3 microtransactions, item trading for Dust 514
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/20...g-for-dust-514

Quote:
Sony is mulling the addition of micro-transactions and item trading on PlayStation Network, beginning with PlayStation 3 and Vita online shooter Dust 514.

Developer CCP said plans for dealing with Dust 514's item management were "breaking new ground" on PSN and, if implemented, could become a universal system for buying, selling and trading content using Sony's online services.

...

CCP said Sony was hammering out price guidelines and item restrictions to allow Dust 514's system to be expanded to other games if successful.

...

CCP plans for Dust 514 to include robust systems of virtual commerce similar to its traditional PC MMO Eve Online, which Dust 514 ties into.

Someone in the comments section of the Eurogamer article on this made some comments about what it was in particular that they were considering.

It seems it's not just simply buying virtual items from an in-game store with real money, but iirc also cover stuff like allowing players themselves to trade virtual items and such for real dosh.

Sounds interesting but i'd like to know more.

Yap, I think the perfect place to do that exchange is PS Home. It would allow us to see virtual items. There are also clubhouses for encouraging collection, exchange and sharing. But they should add a 2D UI over the process so we can blaze through the exchange or even auction UI when we are busy.

I dunno Patsu, whilst i agree with you in concept, i believe that the end execution might prove too cumbersome and turn off the majority of gamers. Home is too unweildy, takes too long to boot up and load, and thus would be too much of an obstruction to you simply wanted to make quick trades and quickly get back into the action.

It makes me wonder whether next-gen, Sony might have plans to expand Home by even dedicating persistent HW resources to it so that you can jump in and out of it from any game with rapidity. That kind of functionality would greatly benefit the system as a differentiator (as a sort of visualisation of the parties and chat functions that exist in XBL). It would be Home as it was always intended to be. But alas i digress, this is a little OT for this thread

I see what you're saying. ^_^

But I'm proposing Home use because of the backend services first, hence the need for a new/improved 2D UI frontend. PS Home's community services (e.g., chat services, clubhouse, party management) are more sophisticated than XMB or even PC casual game portals.

The entire 3D world is another level deeper (e.g., for visualizing item use, playing 3D games), which can be detached if players are not interested in it. But yes, we have digressed.

I was way interested in this game before this news but now I'm damn excited. I'm interested to see how they handle the f2p model.

Can't wait to try this game.

This and Starhawk are the only 2 BR games I look forward to play at this very moment.

I don't know when The Last Guardian will land. Last of Us, Mass Effects, BioShock Infinite, FFXIII-2 are all long campaign games I need time to enjoy slowly.

EDIT: Haven't tried Twisted Metal. Not a fan of clowns.

... and yes, Journey. I need to put away everything for a brief hour or two to experience that game.

I've enjoyed what little I've played of TM, I just haven't put proper time into it since I'm trying to rush through ME2 for ME3.

Perhaps as a follow up to the failed Counter-Strike cross-play effort ?

Sony "removed" PSN barriers for free-to-play MMO Dust 514
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/20...y-mmo-dust-514

Quote:
Sony didn't relax PSN policies so free-to-play MMO Dust 514 would work on PS3 - Sony "removed" them, developer CCP has told Eurogamer.

"Relaxed is not even the word - they have 'removed'," Dust 514 executive producer Brandon Laurino revealed.

"Together we've worked to identify all the barriers that need to be removed to properly operate a service such as this on a console."

This generation ought to have been a hotbed for consoles MMOs. The online capabilities are firmly there. But platform holder red-tape has kept MMOs largely at bay.

The crux of the issue: how an MMO can be patched, updated and charged for - as they are without restriction on PC.

But Dust 514 won't fall at that hurdle.

"We have complete ability to service and update the game as much as needed," Brandon Laurino declared.

*hi five* *lo fi* *shake hand, twist and snap*

I got my son to play Heavy Rain back then... the scene where Jason disappeared. I wanted to teach him how it feels when your child has gone missing. He was creeped out by that clown too. Dem clowns with colorful balloons that block your view just rub people the wrong way.

Blog continues to blast us with DUST514 weaponry. Actually, all they need to show me is how terribly destructive and nefarious the weapons are, I'd bite. Paper tech specs are for consoles and iPads.

GDC 2012: CCP talks DUST 514 PC possibilities and World of Darkness development
http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/03...d-of-darkness/

Quote:
While many EVE Online players aren't thrilled with DUST 514's PlayStation 3 exclusivity, there may be hope for a PC release yet. And while the devs weren't ready to make any official statements on the spot, a bit of wink-nudging indicates that a PC release may still be in the cards. As the devs note, mouse and keyboard controls are already supported in the PS3 version of the title. "I wonder why we did that," Hilmar joked during the interview.

The Dust 514 keynote from the fanfest should start in about 10 minutes.

You can see it in home (but the stream is breaking up, and out of sync), or at the fanfest page http://fanfest.eveonline.com/en/events/evetv (but I can't find it for free there).
