For some reason I didn't get one when registering yesterday (yes, I checked spam folder). I tried registering again today using the same e-mail address and it told me it's already registered. Guess I'll just have to hope it worked.

I'd like them to make open GW2 week-ends before game release just like in GW.
Curious to try the game, GW fans seem less enthusiast about it than other people. (We expect an improved GW after all, not a completely different game, which it seems to be to a fair extent.)

I fully expect this to happen. Depending on how the closed BETA goes, they may or may not set a release date. If it goes well, they'll set a release date some months in the future (I think earliest I heard mentioned was 3-4 months from now if the BETA goes well), if it doesn't then development continues.

I'd imagine that once release date is set we'll see some open weekends or full open BETA a month or so prior to release.

Mostly because while GW2 is spiritually similar to GW1, it's also vastly different with different gameplay. Character customization is hugely limited compared to the first where you Primary and Secondary classe, and hence access to hundreds of skills from each class giving millions upon millions of potential character builds. PvP especially will be far more limited with far less build options. On the plus side, limiting character options makes balancing a lot easier (balance in GW1 was a nightmare).

And I'm sure there are some that don't like the move from a Lobby/instance style of multiplayer to a MMO/open world style of multiplayer.

Myself, I regret the loss of the GW1 character system, but I'm fully looking forward to the MMO style of gameplay.

With closed BETA about to finally start, I think it's time for me to finally buckle down and grind out the last HoM points I need in GW1 to get to 30 points for all the useful Heritage pets and armor and stuff in GW2.

Regards,
SB

I have an elite armor to register, but I don't think I'll bother going for 30 points, you're braver or more insane than me

I'm really curious about the game, but I fear watching too many videos/reading too much about it will just spoil the game completely for me ^^
Temptation...

Apparently I now got the confirmation e-mail, roughly 24 hours after submitting through their app.

In something MMORPGish, I'd play PvE exclusively under most circumstances, but if you guys are around in the beta....Hehe...hehehe...MUAHAHAHAHA!!

Seriously, though, I'll probably be that weirdo puttering around on his own in the world collecting material for a yew bow with mother-of-pearl inlays.
Someone has to bug-test the crafting system.
Thanks for the heads-up, Dresden.

Perhaps. But certainly not insane enough to go for the full 50 points. I have a friend from Rift that is currently grinding out his 50th point (he's got 49).

http://www.gamebreaker.tv/video-game...ild-wars-show/

The host sound very happy with the demo, he was the most careful one (if you watch previous episodes), so it sounds pretty good.
(He's still sceptical about underwater combat though, since he didn't try them ^^ )

I like how he says that things just happen and he didn't care about "questing", he just went around to explore, and quests/events found him

Have any invites actually gone out? I know there was a 48 hour application window, but are they waiting until it ends to actually start sending invites?

From what I understood they are currently just gathering a pool of people to choose from and will be giving out invites to them as the beta events come along. I wouldn't be surprised if it takes weeks before first beta events actually begin

I have watched some of the more recent GW2 videos and I think it looks amazing. I will definately be letting my dad know about it as he likes MMOs and was really invested in the AC platform for years... and years (maybe still pays!)

Question: Is the combat point and click like or is there a class that has controls/gameplay like Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning?

You have 10 skills to use at the right time and location, not just a few buttons that you combine in different ways/timing to get specific results.
AFAIR you can target, but weapons are "physical". (The game is using hitboxes.)

Yes, it would seem that there is some "physical" skill involved in fighting, and it's not completely stat based. A strong positive in my book, and one I'd like to see taken further. This, and even more so the possibility of occasionally partaking in larger events without the hassle of guild memberships and such, are very attractive. Add the lack of monthly fees which makes it natural to let the amount of gameplay follow the ebb and flow of your life over time, and it becomes a product that deserves support on general principle!

Not sure if the PC version will have console controls or not. The game has been designed with consoles in mind however as it will be receiving a console version. Unknown whether that will be simultaneous with PC or not at this point.

Hence the character skills/powers are grouped into 2 groups of 5. Easy to map primary to controller buttons and then second via a modifery button. There's an addional set of 4 class skill modifer/action buttons. Will also need a dedicated attack, jump, dodge button. So it's very doable on console.

Combat won't be Kindoms of Amalur like. It's RPG with Action elements and not Action with RPG elements. Imagine ME1 style of combat except that you have "sticky" targetting. On PC you can manually select targets with a mouse (typical MMORPG) or I believe the system will attempt to auto-target what is under your cross hairs if you blind fire abilities. Again, console controller friendly.

All that said, no clue if console controls will be supported on the PC, however. Haven't seen mention of console controller use on PC in any of the Media BETA video's however. Then again many of those same PC Media video's for Kingdoms of Amalur didn't mention console controls, so who knows?

SB

Here's some info on the crafting system. It answered a few of my burning questions:

http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/02...ing-explained/

The GW2 Facebook page stated they have not sent out invites yet, so be wary of any emails you may receive claiming you're admitted.

Welp, time to get this back on the first page.

Just got the invite to the BETA weekend as I imagine all the pre-purchasers did. And of course, their forum has crashed due to the load of everyone trying to get there to download the client. No biggie though as it shouldn't start until Friday at the earliest.

SB

Heh, I was surprised how large it is for a BETA. I figured they'd limit the world, but it appears to be the entire game judging by the size.

And my GW grind is over. 30 points and all ready for GW2 now.

SB

I pre-ordered this like 3 years ago at Gamestop. I read how pre-purchases were eligible for the beta, but does that include boxed copies from retailers like Gamestop?

Yes, as long as it is a "pre-purchase" and not a "pre-order." I'm going to guess that yours is still a pre-order. You can probably contact gamestop to have them convert it to a pre-purchase.

If you did the pre-purchase which was only available starting a couple weeks ago, then you paid up front for the game and if it was a physical copy they mail you a box containing your registration code which you then use to link GW2 to your GW1 account (if you have one) as well as registering your game. If it's a digital copy then it all happens right after you finish the pre-purchase.

SB

Went to Gamestop and talked about pre-order bonuses. They asked my information and then printed me a receipt with a beta code. The client is downloading as I type this! Seems like the file is gigantic. When do the servers go live?

It's pre-purchase (ie you pay full, can't cancel).
http://www.guildwars2.com/en/
The countdown is on the page, so you don't even have to convert to your local time

Interesting, they are completely sold out of digital copies in the US. So whatever physical copies are left will be the only copies available for purchase for a while.

Similar to Blizzard with the WoW launch there's going to be a limited amount of copies/codes for each region in order to attempt to keep server load under control. Once they feel that is stable after launch, they'll start releasing more copies/codes.

Glad I pre-purchased, otherwise it's quite likely I wouldn't get to play for a month or more after release.

Regards,
SB
