I agree subway town was a tad too short and the last level while fine should have been handled differently. I posted in the PC thread my theory on how it should have gone.

In my laptops I love them, Windows gets to a usable point after logging in much faster than without. Just be sure to apply the latest firmware update if it doesn't ship with it already (before you put it in the PS3, just use an external enclosure and your PC with the bootable ISO). And hard set the drive to SATA1 mode with the jumper on the back or you might have some random issues at boot (at leas with older versions of the PS3 firmware, not sure if that's still an issue). |

I finally got around to playing this. I'm really liking it so far. Good old run and gun shooting. The enemy animations when getting shot are fantastic.

This may not be fair of me to say. Only having playing Rage for about 2 hours. But get DEHR, it's a massive game that'll let you play it however you want to.

Well, one of my friends who is super quick with buying , playing and reselling a game is clinging on to his copy of RAGE. i am super surprised, cos this guy never holds on to any game, he just sells them off as soon as he is done with the campaign. But he is holding on to RAGE and UC3.
That says something. I need to chk out RAGE. BTW, he played DE:HR too and sold it off, as is usual !

Ok, may be he likes good looking games and MP ? I'll get DEHR first as planned, and then RAGE after that.

I really liked Rage. The gunplay portion was superb, and I have yet to explore the sewers... I suspect I'll load up the beginning of the final level and then radio for a pick up. That way I'll have all the uber guns etc to take with me. It's got replay value just for that. Not too interested in the driving\racing games.
It's just got the edge over borderlands in that respect.

I like these smaller sandbox games. They waste no space so all the interesting stuff is close together, and everything is given a lot more attention then a massive open world have, while still offering a great amount of freedom.
The enemy animations are still a good source of amusement. Some guy was flailing around as I shot him, until he finally ran straight into wall. I wasn't expecting the game to be this gory. Some places are absolutely disgusting. All the stuff on walls, and just listening to the sounds gives me the creeps. |

Hah ! I saw your post before you edited it.
I suspect people who recommend RAGE probably like it mainly for the shooting mechanics. I noticed that some people call R3 generic, while others are addicted to it. Some like the purity/simplicity of old school shooters, while others look for a little more something. I know Cornsnake likes MAG and Demon's Souls like me. So I'm willing to take a chance on his opinions on other games.

Having used the radio to 'beam' back to base from the final level, I have suddenly realised that Rage has absolutely zero replay value unless you mean to do the campaign again.
The wastelands are barren, the NPC are stuck, and the only playable adventures are the sewer missions which are only mutants and therefore a little boring eventually. There are no random encounters, no regenerating outlaw bases. In fact whole sections are now closed off and are no longer explorable. I guess this if anything shows the datedness of the design. So, in revision of my previous expectations, it definitely loses out to Borderlands in this respect. Bit sad really. At least the original campaign is solid...

Heh heh, that bad huh ? I'll play DEHR first, and then swing back later to see what more people think. Remember to post summary after you have completed the game please !

It was fun, and the single-player campaign is a solid length at $60. But the multiplayer holds little interest for me. However, there are split-screen co-op missions, which is cool if you have friends. The multiplayer is nothing special. In retrospect, I kind of wish I had waited for a price drop.

Well that is an abrupt ending. They do a lot of building up to it, and then they kind of leave us hanging. No final boss either, which is disappointing because I did like some the bosses.
The story isn't much, although I do like the way is presented. Short and to the point in game mission briefings form the NPCs, and a lot attention to making the towns seem alive. Everything has a nice little charm to it. Even the different enemy gangs have more identity to them compared to the cannon fodder in most games. Only the Authority is a bit lacking for being the main enemy. I like all the little RPG elements they added. Like buying your own ammo and building your own items. That way there is always plenty of what you like the most. In my case Pop Rockets and the awesome Spider Bot. That thing really puts buddy NPCs in other games to shame. It actually shoots at enemy, they also consider it a valid target, so you can either protect to keep it going a little longer, or use it as a distraction. Just looking at thing blasting away, climbing on things, jumping on enemies that come too close, is fun to watch. The shooting feels great, the cars handle well enough with some upgrades and add some nice variety. Overall I really like this game. Next to DEHR and Crysis 2 it's one of my favourite shooters this year. I spend 22 hours on Normal, and I think I have finished most of the side quests. |

Playing on Nightmare now. I already made it back to Wellspring. I think the RPG elements make the difficulty a bit moot. Simply buy better ammo to make it easier.

Earning money isn't that easy IMHO. The games in the towns don't pay that much, even the card game with the girl in Subway City; and Mutant Bash requires a significant investment in ammo, even though pop rockets for the shotgun usually one-shot kill the mutants there, or a single spiderbot can help a lot as well.
Also, it's kinda hard to avoid bandit cars in the wastelands, so you'll have to spend on rockets and reparis too, whenever you leave town.

I haven't been short on cash so far. And I neglected to sell all the junk I was carrying on my first playthrough. Winning against that girl in Subway Town can earn you 225$ on hard, which can buy you a lot of ammo, and that's mostly a matter of having the right cards.

Yeah, but it takes a lot of time and you can't rule out the luck factor - whoever gets the more hard hitting cards down first is going to be able to destroy the enemy's every card in the first turn it's participating in.
