Default Thread Display Mode - Linear, Newest First

A little while ago I switched to "Thread Display Mode - Linear, Newest First" in the options. It took a few days to get used to, but I'm definitely not going back now. It's definitely more efficient in many ways (for instance you can just simply click on a thread to see the latest posts, etc.).

Anyone else using this mode?

Thanks for pointing this out. Definitely very useful.

It means you're reading the discussion backwards. I use linear, but I just click on the little icon in front of the thread. That jumps you to the newest post you haven't read, and then you can read normally downwards.

That's what I do. The icon takes you to the latest unread post, and you carry on from there. Otherwise you have to scroll down to find the earliest unread post, and then scroll up to read more, which is backwards.

That's probably just me, but I have no problem reading the discussions backwards. Often there aren't that many new posts anyway, as I read the forums quite often, but in general I can even comfortably read upside down if I have to. Typically, information density in topics due to quoting, replies, repitition, etc. that the last few posts cover everything. It's also really convenient in terms of paging, I find.

Clicking the little to the left of the thread title goes straight to the first unread post in the default forum skin.

I'm using IE and it always goes to first unread post, even if I just press the thread.

edit: or not hehe, It does that when I press a thread in the main index...
