No release notes yet, nor download at game.amd.com, but those are the officials, so the amd-link & notes should come later today

Well that thread is removed but not before I downloaded and installed them earlier today The official release has been pushed to monday, so I really hope that I didn't make a mistake (some people were complaining in the deleted thread but everything seems to be fine with me so far - 4770 here )

Same with me and my 4770.
No discernible change from the drivers on the CD though.

Makedon had a baby this week... Well, that's his excuse for messing up the release notes.

And that's a quite valid excuse when you don't think about it... I mean, men usually don't have no babies, ya know.

Release notes are up, Draft watermark included...
Anyways, not much for XP users
Issues resolved: 0
Known issues: Performance drop on Doom3 engine games.

The rest is Vista/W7 bug fix stuff.

Not that you'd particularly expect much in the way of fixes/performance improvements to be possible on XP given how long in the tooth it is by now

Edit: Sweet, I think Hydravision is finally working properly, I see Hydravision tab in Advanced mode of CCC for the first time!
On the other hand, my Desktop Wallpaper has gone bye bye on W7 x64 O_o

I had a bug in XP wrt to my dual screen configuration. It didn't want to detect my monitor, it only found my HDTV, no matter what (Hot plug/unplug the monitor didn't help). I had to uninstall the drivers and CCC, remove the DVI-to-HDMI cable I had connected to the TV, reinstall the drivers and then reconnect it once the monitor itself was finally detected.

Kind of weird of an issue. In Vista (32bit), I had no such issue, though.

For info, if the Cat team reads the thread, the card is an HD 4890, the Monitor an Asus MK24 and the TV a Samsung series 5 (can't remember the exact model here). All that on XP 32bit SP3.

So far it's running smooth and by the numbers with Vista x64.

Wallpaper came back after a reboot. (& flashed briefly as the PC was shutting down like it had been hiding under a blank desktop)

Also Portal is now working
It wasn't loading on 9.4, it'd get to where it should load the main menu then get into some kind of resolution switching freakout then crash.
Other Source games were working fine & Portal was ok on XPx64.

Does anyone know if these are the same that were leaked a few days ago? TT tested those and saw huge drops for 4850's in STALKER and noticeable drops in FC2/Crysis/L4D.

Holy shite @ the overall performance drop for the 4850 card!

That's not how drivers updates are supposed to work, Ati! You're doing it wrong.

Hmmm, has there been any other sites verifying this drop in perf? It seems odd that such a large performance drop would happen only with the 4850 considering it's basically the same as the 4870.

Or anyone with a 4850 seeing huge perf drops?

Regards,
SB

4870/1GB is also seeing drops in several of the 13 games i benchmark. Generally, 4890 sees increases as does 4870-X2. if you want me to be specific i can. i test at 19x12 and 16x10 with everything fully maxed out plus 4xAA/16xAF

STALKER, CS has the biggest drops over Cat 9-4; FC2 got hit also with cat 9-5 with 4870, but not bad; however, both games saw improvement with 4870-X2 and 4890 on Cat 9-5 over 9-4

A friend tests with 4850 and got small improvement in L4D, FC and STALKER over Cat 9-4. Graphs available.

No, not talking about small drops here, but the linked article contained some rather massive drops for 4850 that weren't mirrored in any way by the 4870.

I'm wondering if they just messed up their test procedure somehow or if there is indeed some serious issue with 9.5 that affects only the 4850.

But at least recent posts seem to point to that linked article as being an anomaly and there really isn't a massive performance hit on 4850 with cat 9.5.

Regards,
SB

Did you notice they did not test with HD4870? - just HD4870-X2 [which i found gets a boost in 9-5 over 9-4]

i did test with 4870-1GB and i found the same massive drop in Clear Sky as TT did with 4850
- 4870X2 did not suffer and 4890 improved with the newer drivers in CS.

Most of the 13 benchmarks i do were largely unchanged.

Sounds like GDDR5 MC optimisations but that they forgot to (couldn't?) stop them applying to 4850 too?

OK, i will bite; what optimizations would result in 4870 and 4850 frame rates taking a dive that would improve 4890 [and possibly 4870-X2] results?

- the 4870 and 4890 were both 1GB versions that i use; i am not sure TT did not use a 4850-512MB as they do not specify in their HW table

Guess I was reading wrong, I thought 4870 was seeing slight gains
