Kinda makes me want to play the game again. MP2 had one of the best stories in any game ever IMO. I very rarely "connect" with a game story that deeply.

MGS3 did that to me ! I was "in" the story in that one ! Eva and Naked Snake = Best Love story ! I had a lump in my throat at the end ! No other game has touched that height for me !

I wonder if they have a new engine for this game, a heavily modified version of an engine we've seen, or if they're going to try to shoe horn it into a game engine that we'll all be unhappy about.

I'm confident they can deliver. I'm ok if they do some new things with it, otherwise it'll just be Max Payne 2.X

If they add some more environment interaction, like climbing, vaulting, swinging and stuff, I'd be happy. I don't want it to turn into a platform game though. A nice move would be running and smashing into things, like a body check to knock down doors and people. I think that would suit the uglier, beefier max.

Sam Lake (aka Real Max Payne) @ E3 '09 showing Alan Wake

Actually, I'm kinda curious about what Alan Wake will actually end up being like. May be more interested in this than more Max Payne. It actually is very "Max Payne"-like...

Just as I thought they totally fucked it up. Thanks alot rockstar. I really would like to know who is leading is project because it takes a real genious to take everything that made the old games so great, and than flip it around. Max isnt a musculine bald guy. Max doesnt shoot poor brazilian kids and no way in hell can a place with funky colors and a temperature that doesnt drop below 30 degrees ever be as dark and gritty as the city in the old games!

Maybe we should go max payne on rockstar's ass for making what is a perfectly good series into a generic 3rd person shooter.

I don't think it has anything to do with turning dark.

Writers and game designers just tend to not be very humble people (especially the successful ones). When you give an existing franchise to a new team they will want to make it their own, they make changes for the sake of change. The changes originate from them after all, which has to be inherently better than anything which did not originate from them.

I'll reserve judgement until I see some gameplay videos.

Max Paybe 3 Fact Sheet !
Quote:
Max Payne 3 begins 12 years after the events of Max Payne 2, with Max visibly older, more violent, and more world-weary from the events of his own life. Having left the NYPD, Max has been taking odd jobs in security and consulting, and when we find him he is providing personal protection for a wealthy family in Sao Paolo, one of the world’s deadliest and most crime-ridden cities. At absolute rock-bottom, Max discovers that trouble still dogs his every step, and he finds himself drawn into the brutal heart of the Brazil’s dark underworld.

WTF?!?!? Does it have nothing to do with the earlier stories?

Yeah this is definatly troubling. How can the sun soaked streets of Sao Paolo play host to a "Film Noir" setting that made the first two games so great?

Sao Paulo wishes it were 'sun-soaked'. More like haze-soaked -- I wonder if MP3 will render the gray-purple skies in the daytime as well as the reddish, starless skies of the nighttime. WHen it's not drizzling, that is.

Sounds like they took inspiration from the movie, "Man on Fire."

I don't think having it set in Brazil would prevent them from following the formula. It really hinges on the gameplay. If it doesn't look good in slow-mo and have abundant physics, I'll be disappointed.

Okay, they'll have bullet time, 3rd person view, and lots of shooting. But they'll be missing the whole noir atmosphere. It'll be like a remake of "Alien" set in the bright sunshine - yeah, it's got a Geiger-esque alien, but not really when it takes place on a beach with sun, sand and sea.

Probably Rockstar wanted to build a third person shooter with bullet time, and just bought the MP name so that they could get instant recognition from the target audience. You know people can never resist messing with a formula, and that's why so many sequels are bad.

It does get dark at night in Brazil, and they have some of the worst slums in the world. I don't see any reason they can't find the atmosphere you're familiar with in Brazil. Things will hopefully be different but close enough.

I have to say I'm very unimpressed with the direction they're taking this game. Also, the screenshots they've released look very lackluster to me. With that said though, I'll have to wait and see more of the game before I make any further judgements.

My first thought on the visuals was, "FarCry2 expansion?" I hate that game btw.

Very strange way to make a "Max Payne" game. Why not just make it a new franchise? Aw well whatever. How many modern console people will have even played the old MP games.
