Default Quick Tidbit: OMAP3/PowerVR SGX Power Consumption

It's frequent to see people claim this or that power number is too high to be used in a mobile phone, or so low it'll result in amazingly long battery life. A recent document from Texas Instruments gives detailed numbers for OMAP3 and implicitly PowerVR's SGX, and so might help break some myths.

I don't think it's a surprise when you consider the Palm Pre is using the OMAP3430 + SGX530

expect the OMAP36xx and 37xx families @45nm shortly oh and OMAP 44xx a lil while later....

Lets see once the products are out, when these things are running some location-aware application which is streaming data as well as receiving GPS data and the display is scrolling some map.

While playing music.

iPhone fares poorly in these scenarios and these are more power-hungry chips?
