Default Ps3 linux: audio applications

Ok, ps3 linux don't have a 3d support , but ..
what about audio applications?
Is there some linux application optimized for cell?
I was wondering about a guitar sound real time processor/recorder/editor at the power of a cell processor ..

IIRC SingStar has support for VST audio plugins running on SPE's. If I had the time and knowhoe, I'd be writing audio software on PS3 Linux. It could do some amazing things. However AFAIK there's nothing happening in this field. Without any sequencing software, and with the limited RAM, PS3's use for music is limited. The best role it could manage would be as an effects box, plugged into a PC and treated like a musical FX box. This'd need software on PS3, drivers on PS3, and a market for it...

So all in all, another wasted opportunity Best real chances? Toshiba's SPURSEngine sees some professional adoption leading to PC applications that get adapted to run with a PS3 instead of the SPURSEngine board.

Not audio specific, but media specific.

You can check out spu-medialib for MPEG 1 and 2 handling today: http://wiki.ps2dev.org/ps3:spu-medialib
Prior work on ffmpeg acceleration on Cell (PPU oriented): http://hpc.serc.iisc.ernet.in/~sree/...ell-report.pdf

There is also the computer vision library (OpenCV) on Cell: http://cell.fixstars.com/opencv/inde...CV_on_the_Cell

With all the power available you could do an absolute killer modular soft synth. Cell has a pretty much perfect architecture for audio so I wouldn't be surprised to see them or SPURS engine appearing inside proper hardware synths.

Indeed, it kills me that Korg built the OASYS on a P4 (granted the Cell wasn't readily available then), but an OASYS successor built around the Cell or SPURS engine would be pretty sweet (and have more headroom for growth as well).
