Fudo talks to the world: Nvidia 180 driver speeds up GTX 260, 216

Quote:
The upcoming 180 driver release from Nvidia allows the Geforce GTX 260 with 216 Shaders to overake the Radeon HD 4870 in top titles like Call of Duty 5, Fallout 3, Far Cry 2, Left for Dead and Dead Space. Nvidia's new driver is set to launch this week and it will also bring some more functionality

Any idea on improvements for older cards, particularly G80 and G92-based? Not many GT200 users out there yet...

That Bjorn3d piece read like a damn advertisement. I like how they had the same graphic as computerbase too. Gee, I wonder if that's straight from an NV "reviewer's guide".

I'm playing Bioshock, Fallout 3, Crysis Warhead, and World in Conflict right now (among others) so it would be nice to see some of those performance gains on my 8800 GT as well. Guess I'll just have to do the testing myself

Are these over the 180.43 betas or the last WHQL set?

I am running them now and all is well.

Yeah the results did seem a bit strange compared with what we're used to. And I hate the scewed scaling in the graphs,

But did you see the platorm they were using...? 3.8Ghz i7 with 6GB of RAM! What a beast!

Ahh, the good ole "up to" qualifier. Meaning in the real world you'll get 1/10th of that at best.

Just because it's not the average case doesn't mean it's useless. If we're talking about minimum FPS in particular that's the best kind of FPS improvement. Say minimum FPS at its lowest point in the game used to be 20 and now it's 36, I'd go for that.

I'll say it. Where are those image quality comparisons? Surely Nvidia is cheating again.

So does this have the mythical SLI multi-monitor support enabled?

Good news about Stalker CS, thanks ted.

Bioshock is running a bit smoother for me as well, subjectively speaking anyway. I perceive fewer dips in fps in intense scenes. I'll need more testing to flesh this out though.

Well I know what I am doing right away when I get home is updating the drivers! I wish I had another 30 inch right now to try out the multi monitor support. Maybe I should read the release notes it could have potential information in there. In fact the whole reason why I dont have another 30 inch is because multi monitor never worked.

You know I am noticing something weird. I think these drivers are no good for my system. I am going to have to roll back. I was watching for example this week's Naruto release and the resolution was not fitting in the MPC Homecinema and so the subtitles were being chopped off...anyone experience that problem?

Just an update...reverted the drivers and it works now.

Screen scaling seems ok to me. Except that I can't get 720p to scale correctly but it never has anyway.
