Default zotac gtx 280 amp @ 700Mhz core?

Is this a good buy?

It's c$536 in Newegg.ca.

Zotac 280 gtx @ 700 Mhz

Is Zotac a good brand? I did a quick search in the netz and found mixed reviews.

Any updates?

Thanks a lot

I'd try to get a better brand (EVGA, XFX etx), personally.

But thats just me, odds are its fine.

I have a Zotac 8800GT @ 700|2000. It is a very good card. I am holding onto it to use for PhysX with my GTX 260.

A GTX 280 @ 700 on the core should be fast and a nice card to own. Below is a review of it-

nope. Zotac is giving Grid away.

I chose Zotac because of the overclocked edition: 700Mhz.

Time will tell if I did the right thing...

I found this concerning (from the X-bit labs article linked above)
Quote:
Unfortunately, our experience with the Zotac GeForce GTX 280 AMP! suggests that this card is prone to overheat, at least in hot weather. The GPU temperature reached a critical 105°C after two hours of our tests, triggering the protection system which reduced the GPU clock rates automatically. This resulted in a momentary pause, and then the game would go on normally or exit into the OS.
Factory sample and it overheats? I mean, yeah, anyone on this forum would know how to fix it. But why is it even a problem in a production sample?

I saw that...

In Canada winter is coming in full force, so I'm not concerned. During summer I will have to leave the case open and improve air flow.
