How does he/she hide SackBoy ? Is it at the bottom of the screen or behind the jet ?

WoW ! So the sackgirl was behind the background? Very novel way of showing you controling the craft and not the sackboy !
Damn, when will I get the game?

An excellent creation! Wondering how it works, there's got to be grabbing for the shooting. I'm not sure how the vertical and horizontal is managed though. All the devices that are needed, AFAICT, are visible, unless you can make piston etc. invisible.

I think he's probable just using the jetpack. I don't know how else you can get that freedom of motion. The shooting is probably a grab trigger, but I don't know how you can combine that with a jetpack.

This level looks like a great use of the tools.

You sit inside a ring. Jetpack to move up/down, left/right. Grab button will grab anywhere in the ring around you. What I can't fathom is how the player motions behind the screen are converted to ship position. Are there any flying creature components? A brain send to follow with maximum speed, if the creature could move while hovering, would work. I thought of this for homing missiles/creatures, but building them out of float wasn't enough to get them to move. They'd need some form of creature controlled propulsion to position themselves. The Beta only had wheels and peg-legs, but I haven't heard of any other components.

Otherwise the ship would have to be attached to a piston, or system of gear. Can you make those invisible?

Not invisible, but I think most 'links' aren't bothered by objects between them in different planes. If that's true, that could be the way he did it? From the side, a link between two planes wouldn't be visible anyway but with a thin plane sprite against a thick plane background wouldn't leave much room for visibility in that case anyway.

Possibly. Links pass through objects, and are plane independent. There could be a piston system on the back plane linking to the R-Type in the middle plane. I noticed at the end that the objects are made huge and the camera zoomed well out, which could help hide any piston stretching into the middle plane.

The motion looks mapped 1:1 to the jetpack motion. The ship drops in from the top. There's also a square visible attached to the ship against the black background. Could be the link, a rod or somesuch, is passing through the plane? Seems unlikely. The fact it drops in from above is extra odd. If I didn't know what was in the Beta, I'd have thought there was a magnetic power in effect!

I think he's standing inside a piece of float material that's attached to the grab trigger. That would allow him to use the jetpack, and always be able to grab something to allow the spaceship to shoot.

I really shouldn't be torturing myself like this, thinking of how a LBP level works, but not having the game to try them out.

Yeah, I can't wait to start playing. It's going to be released this week in europe. I bought a new 250 GB harddisk especially for this game. That should take me a while to fill up.

I was thinking about working my way through the tutorials and start working on my levels again. But now I wonder if it might be better if I play the story first, and unlock some extra stuff for level creation. Is there anything worthwhile to unlock in the story that is of good use for level creating?

It's definitely worth it to go through the single player levels first. Tons of materials, objects, sickers, and sounds to gather (plus cool outfits!). You can't go wrong, as you'll build your arsenal of objects and materials to use through the creation mode and make your levels a bit more visually pleasing!

Edit: Sorry, all codes are gone!

Yes, a bunch. Materials for a start. You've got about 10% or less.

There are probably going to be many more (and better) of these, but it's a nice showcase. Lots of cool stuff out there on youtube, really look forward to picking up the game. Trying to get my colleagues interested in the game as well, so we can do some multiplayer and create some fun stuff together maybe even for a work event.

That said, I still have four Kratos codes for NA users, if you're interested, please PM me! Or if you know someone else on another forum, PM me and I'll give you the code to pass along.
I'll start by playing the story then.

I'm in europe with a european PS3, so I guess a NA code won't work for me, but thanks anyway.

I just called the store, they just received their copies, and I can pick up mine tomorrow.

I want to tell you about this very interesting company called Sony... but you better sit down and read it yourself: http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2008/11/04/...age-importing/

Quote:
That image importing feature that was supposed to be coming in the next LittleBigPlanet patch? It's probably not going to happen, after all. The Community Manager has made a comment on the official European PlayStation forums to say that while "image importing is very much technically viable ... there are currently no plans to introduce it for a variety of reasons.

"Announcements of future content releases, whether free, paid for, feature update, costume, sticker or whatever will always come through the official websites for LittleBigPlanet and Media Molecule, if you hear of updates through any other source please take it with a pinch of salt until it has been confirmed or denied." So while it's not ruled out for good, don't expect to see it coming any time soon. Better plug that PlayStation Eye back in -- it's your only method of custom image importing for the foreseeable future.
It's probably a battle between the techies, the business people and legal.

So what are they afraid, that people will take copywritten images and map them in LBP levels and characters?

Legal has been mentioned in this respect many times.

I'm willing to bet that if it happens at all, they'll add it as DLC that has separate legal terms
