I thought it looked cleaner/less blurry than Tools of Destruction. Overall, it looks better and having downloaded it, I'd say that the resolution is probably the same.

Either the JPN PSN listing has a mistake, or they opted to upscale that version to 1080p because the US one is 720p only (you can't force it either). There is DTS 5.1 support too, which oddly enough has to be forced. but the quality isn't any better than the DD 5.1 option.

Here's Force Unleashed on Xbox 360. My HDCP stripper for PS3 blew up so I could only take shots of that version using an HD Fury. Which I might do later.

That definitely looks blurry compared to the PS3 build.

I've opened up the first pic and there's no blur whatsoever, save perhaps on the Apprentice. Likewise pic three, the scenery is perfectly crisp. The only blur going on is on the characters which looks like motion blur to me. Check the Apprentice in pic 3 - his fast-moving feet are blurred where the rest isn't. A glance at the lights on the floor shows there's no frame-wide blurring or upscaling going on.

Pic 2. Blur all over his arm. This is not in the PS3 build. Compare it yourself. Also, Pic 3, the Stormtroopers aren't moving and get a blurfilter slapped onto them. I didn't notice this on PS3 either, else I would have commented on it.

The PS3 build is jaggier but crisper/no blur.

Are there any similar reference pics? I know there's a Force effect when using force powers, which warps/blures aroundht earm and in front, which to me is what lokos to be happening in pic 2.

Hard one to call. Two of them at least look to be running away. The one being targeted is definitely fuzzed a bit for some reason.

That still seems a wild statement to me. At best, the PS3 version is lacking a selective rendering effect used in the XB360. The full frame rendering is clearly pixel-perfect 720p on XB360. There's a conditional effect being applied very selectively. I'm not happy calling that out as the whole build being blurrier. It's not the same sort of thing we've seen in other games where a render really is softer.

isn't that just the force power? it seems to have a plasma/fisheye effect on both systems.

I wish we could also talk about the sound differences between the two, but there is no thread set up for that one. To me, sound discussions seems like it could be tied into this thread. After all, sound is part of the experience.

What do you say mods? Would sound talks be allowed in this thread as well?

No, this is a Eye Candy (resolution etc.) only thread. But if you want to compare sound on a reasonable level feel free to create a "Neverending Sound / Music etc. Thread #1" in the CT Forum.

There appears to be a slight bloom/blur around character outlines, but the game appears to be as 720p as it gets.

Thanks for the grabs, gm.

Well I wasn't saying the PS3 build looks better by any means. But there is less blur, even if it's selective and not a soft renderer, at least my eyes say so.

I agree. I noticed it right away when I was playing it, that it seemed a bit soft. When I played the PS3 version later, it just looked sharper, didn't have that same soft look. I even went back and played the X360 version again to make sure I wasn't imagining it.

Unfortunately, I'm not good enough at pixel-counting or well-versed enough in rendering/processing technologies to figure out what's going on.

Then why does it look softer? We're not the only ones saying this, you know... I've read similar things from a lot of other message boards, including from casual gamers. They all think the PS3 version looks sharper.

Color palette along with other aspects could cause the appearance of softness, it doesnt necessarily have to be related to any kind of post processing or resolution difference.

R&C Quest for Booty does not appear to be 1280x704 anymore like R&C:TOD.

It seems to be full 720p now. At least there no longer is any letter boxing, it fills the entire screen. Can someone get and post a direct screengrab?

Wait, R&C TOD didn't fill the entire screen for you? Surely it must have been scaled?

Keep in mind, if your television or monitor does not feature 1:1 aspect ratio scaling, one will not see the black bars present in R&C: TOD due to automagic overscan.

SW Force Unleashed pictures from 360 and ps3 -> http://d.hatena.ne.jp/yoda-dip-jp/searchdiary?word=*

Looking at these shoots, the ps3 version looks more blurry. For example, look at the green computer panels to the left in the last shoot.

Looks like 720p no AA for both versions.

Let's keep the technical comparison to the multiplatform thread.

The webmaster of that site says he uses Intensity Pro for his shots. If he's not using an HDCP stripper, his PS3 shots will be derived from component. Intensity Pro's component input isn't brilliant - the colour balance is off and detail reproduction is softer than HDMI.
