They're the only website with the "press release". Not convinced yet, even though I never believe what Reeves says. Apparently people at GC were talking like it was a done deal.

Depends on how high sales EA has predicted for the title.

Lets say they anticipate 2 million on the X360 during holidays, not launching it during the holiday months will possibly cut their sales in half, plus put a serious dent in the effects of their marketing (as one platform is not out at the time of the marketing campaign)

EA probably earn quite a bit more per title than the average dev would (considering they are publisher and developer at once, they have to have some gain by being big). A timed exclusive for PS3 could easily cost EA 10-15$ million if the title has big potential. So quite a significant bundle has to shift hands if this game is good.

Default PS3 to get exclusive Mirror's Edge DLC

http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=228878

Quote:
Confusion arose last month after German site Heise Online quoted David Reeves as saying the new EA title will arrive on PS3 first.

EA has since denied the claim and now a Sony spokesperson has done the same, telling Eurogamer, "There was a misunderstanding in terms of the quote that Mirror's Edge is to be a timed exclusive on PS3."

So, the game will be released for PS3, PC and Xbox 360 on the same day - whenever that may be, as EA's still keeping quiet.

However, Sony did confirm that although Mirror's Edge is multi-platform, "PlayStation has an exclusive marketing agreement with EA regarding the title."

Plus, the spokesperson added, "Exclusive downloadable content will be offered on the PlayStation Network."

Next week some French site will report:

"There was a misunderstanding in terms of the quote regarding exclusive Mirror's Edge DLC".
DLC will be multiplatform but PS3 owners will get some exclusive themes and wallpapers.

Europe must be a tough place to do business.

David Reeve was misunderstood. He said *unique* game instead of *exclusive* game when he talked about Sony's strategies and Mirror Edge -- although the interviewer was really asking about *exclusive* games.

Default Mirror's Edge Hands On

More gameplay details in the linked article: http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2008/09/15/...-mirrors-edge/

Quote:
The controls essentially boil down to two buttons and two analogue sticks; L1 is the "up" button, L2 is the "down" button and the sticks do exactly what you'd expect. This rather bizarre control set up takes some getting used to, but after a little while feels very fluid. Everything's context sensitive, so pushing L1 as you're running, standing, in mid-air or against a wall will result in different actions. Pressing L2 mid-jump, for example, will pull your legs up, allowing you to jump further. Pressing the same button just before you land after a long fall will preserve momentum by allowing you to execute a forward roll.
Quote:
The controls will take some getting used to, especially when it's hard to know whether you're supposed to be holding the up/down buttons or pressing them repeatedly. No doubt this will take longer than the 20 minute demo I played. Obviously the graphics are gorgeous, as you've seen from the trailers, though there was quite a bit of aliasing. This isn't a deal breaker, however, especially since Mirror's Edge shining gem is its unique gameplay. My major concern is whether the novelty will wear off. Can always-moving-forward style gameplay support an entire game? I'm hoping for some more exploratory areas, which are less about running away and more about using my acrobatic skills to reach difficult areas.
Quote:
Getting my hands on Mirror's Edge confirmed my suspicions, but it also surprised me. The game is going to be a lot tougher than I thought, but it's also going to be a lot more fun. All I want now is to see more of it. I feel like I know this cityscape level like the back of my hand. There's no firm release date, yet, but it's definitely near the top of my list for games to grab this holiday season.

It's an amazing week content wise, a demo of Mirror Edge is best left for an emptier one to give it some good attention.

I really hope it doesn't disappoint

While waiting for the demo, Kotaku posted 2 new Mirror's Edge videos.

The first one focuses on a chopper chase resembling the one found in Half Life 2, except you're jumping from skyscrapers. In the second, Faith seems to be taking an alternate route
Still looking good. Motion sickness awaits me at the end of the road.

Mirror's Edge video interview: http://www.ausgamers.com/videos/view.php/39354

It seems that a sequel is already planned (It's a Trilogy).

Earlier last month EA managed to show off Mirror's edge at the World Freerun Championships in London so that the real runners could give their insight on the game and how it holds up to the real thing.

Haha, I haven't. For some reason I care a lot more about this than almost anything else out this year.
