Well, 8.04 LTS final is out since somewhere in April.
I've just installed it and am very much impressed Previously had lots of problems in the past with trying to get Linux to work & particularly not to crash somewhere between 30secs & 30mins after boot on this PC. This time was very nearly all good & I've not had a single lock-up Good stuff -officially listed mirror on my ISP -install went without a hitch -boot worked -automatically detected my WLAN & ATI 3870, WLAN automatically enabled, had to do like 3 clicks & wait for it to download ATI driver to enable the GPU. -Yay, functioning OGL screensavers -integrated Compiz flashy effects so combined with working 3D acceleration I have bouncy stretchy windows oh yeah -music & internet going ok -nice easy to edit theme in my choice of colour The not so good -tried to play a DVD, auto detected it needed to download a codec & did so with a few clicks but unfortunately for some reason fails to actually play though -for some reason I seem to have to re-enter my WPA key each time I boot up because it doesn't seem to re-activate :-/

Been working great here, except it doesn't seem to like the F keys on my Apple keyboard. Oh well, I'll figure that out sometime...
ahha, add echo -n 0x02 > /sys/module/hid/parameters/pb_fnmode to /etc/rc.local |

My only issues were with the need for manual permissions to access other partitions, which I usually have a lot of things loaded from and the need to constantly set vm.mmap_min_addr to zero and back to 2^16 just to be able to use Wine. Other than that Hardy Heron is incredibly nice and fits on a single CD. I have installed it onto my laptop and my Desktop and it is running wonderfully.
