A white paper, executable, and source is available here.
Excerpt from description: "an engine that is capable of trilinear displacement mapping with depth-adaptive tessellation and this on DX8 capable hardware. The results you can experience with the Xvox demo that shows the case for terrain rendering. The engine makes heavily use of the vertex shader processors, taking the load off the CPU. The displacement mapping is somewhat comparable to trilinear texture filtering. There are several mip-levels, each at a lower resolution. Instead of texels, the mipmap values now correspond to quadrangle geometry. For texture maps the values are the colors of the texel corners, for displacement maps the values are the height of the quadrangle corners." |

Can anyone with a Radeon 8500 run this demo? Playing about with this (with some friends) shows that it scales nicely with the theoretical vertex throughput of each card - ie. a 9700 throughly beats a GF4 which, in turns, beats a GF3. Would be nice to see how an 8500 fits in.

My post was for an 8500 btw, I completely forgot to mention that.
Doesn't work properly for some reason and just draws a blank blue screen like in the screenshot |

Somehow I don't like this "I said it months ago" attitude.

The demo worked perfectly fine at 1280*1024 on my 9800, but I'll try it on my other computer's 8500.

Neat.
BTW The demo doesn't work on my 9700, I get 500+ FPS but no output. |

You need to look down
It didn't get an output on my 9700P either until I moved the mouse around a bit. |
