Somehow I must of angered the Gaming Gods, for today I found Terminator 3 - Rise of the Machines in a charity shop for £1. What a cruel punishment they have inflicted upon me......

It's not that bad... I never understood why that game gets so much hate. It's bland. That's all it is. Bland.

Now, Terminator 3: Redemption... that's a bad game.

It's actually Terminator 3 - War of the Machines (no doubt my subconscious trying to erase it from my memory )

from gamesspot :
"Additionally, it appears that the developers have neglected to include death animations. When you kill an enemy, it stiffly falls over on its back or face. (If you can just imagine pushing a mannequin over, you have a good idea of what death animations in Terminator 3 look like.)"

"Terminator 3's sound effects are probably even worse than its graphics"

"We also managed to get vehicles stuck on top of burning trash cans and in first-story window frames, which should give you a pretty good idea of what to expect from the physics in the game. Terminator 3 seems to also have trouble with collision detection. Enemies don't react to taking fire, and, in many cases, rockets and lasers will actually blatantly pass right through character models and hit the ground behind them."

"There is no single-player campaign in Terminator 3: War of the Machines. From the menu, you're simply presented with a list of the game's 12 maps and are given no other options. You aren't allowed to play against the computer in team deathmatch or mission-based modes, as, apparently, the game's AI is programmed to only handle the termination mode, which is basically the same as Battlefield 1942's conquest mode"

"It's not often that we run into a game that has so little redeeming value, but Terminator 3: War of the Machines fits the bill. With its lackluster graphics and sound, poorly designed maps, shoddy network code, and no online community support whatsoever from its publisher, Terminator 3 should have been terminated long ago in the production process. "

Gamespot score 2/10

You're trashing it, but have you actually played it? I'm a bit confused with the phrasing of your original post.

Really, I played it when it was new, and while I wasn't impressed... I just don't see the hate.

Yes, I have played it and it was horrible
are you confusing it (like I did) with Terminator 3 - Rise of the Machines (despite the youtube vid title it was also a pc game)

Terminator 3 - War of the Machines (reminds me very much of mobile forces)

I'm playing "Orcs Must Die!" at the moment. A very nice indie game which has been deviously well executed.

I'm replaying STALKER (the original and best) with the 'complete mod', trying to finish it in time for BF3 when all other games will take a back seat for a year or two, apart from maybe rFactor 2.

I really didn't think I could enjoy STALKER fully again. The sequels didn't do it for me, and I thought that the impact would be lost after all this exposure. I have to say I'm 99% as immersed as I was the first time round. Can't beat that first playthrough feeling, but I still feel like I'm almost living that game rather than playing it. Most immersive SP game ever for me.

Oh crap, I'd forgot about that game what with all the other great stuff coming out. Really looking forward to it, as long as it doesn't run like a dog on my PC like the last one did.

Just finished Titan Quest and its expansion 1.5 times
i played titan quest finished it and then played the expansion expecting it to be a separate campaign because it installs in a separate location and has a separate exe
but no its the original game plus an added bit (imagine buying morrowind then bloodmoon where bloodmoon is a separate install containing mowwind and bloodmoon)
so when i run titan quest expansion i have to go thorough the original campaign again untill I get to the new stuff which is at the end (it does let you import your char though)

And i picked up and sold every single piece of junk that was dropped....

Playing that myself at the moment and yeah it is. Very nice looking game. Just a kick ass game in general actually.

I bet its all video/cutscenes
thats how nfs seems to be going these days
And for gods sake, I hope they fixed the controls and actually tried playing it with something other than a 360 controller as they never tried playing the last game with anything different.

Does Brotherhood PC have that crappy fake tonemapping the 360 version has? When you look up or down half the screen gets covered with a white gradient, very distracting and ugly.

I'm really not too excited about all the QTE's they implemented (albeit a bit simpler than BF3) but I like the handling of the cars.

On the other hand, it can be really irritating to play because the game got really, really simplified. doing 250 on the Golden Gate bridge is nice, doing 250 while all other traffic on it does 225 seems absurd.

Graphically it looks the looks the looks though the racing can be a bit tedious in the "the run" part because the only thing you're doing is checkpoint chasing or "gain 10 positions" .. out of 10 available.

Also the distinction between the vehicles is hardly there. I can not for the life of me feel the difference between a Skyline GTR or an Aston Martin Vantage, though one is 1 second faster @1-100km/h.

All in all, is it a great pick-up racer? yes. Is it a deep racing game? nah.. is it NFS.. yes!

Started nfs the run immediately go to cutscene then qte red letter B flashes on screen - I dont have a red button labeled B on my steering wheel nor a yellow button labeled Y... so I died
went into options changed controls to keyboard again red letter B, pressed b on the keyboard and died
had to run the stupid qte about 30 times because the game doesnt tell you what red latter B equates to on the keyboard nor does it tell you what other xbox controls are mapped to what keys on the keyboard
seriously press "RT" during a qte what f***ing key on the keyboard is that supposed to be ?

Dang no updates in this thread for a month now.

Just had to throw in I'm currently playing The Ur-Quan Masters (http://sc2.sourceforge.net/ ). It's Star Control 2 updated for modern PCs. It couldn't be called Star Control 2 unfortunately since Activision holds the rights to the IP. But at least they didn't stop the original developer (Toys for Bob) from using the 3DO source code (original PC source code is lost for all time ) to make port for modern PCs (Windows, Mac, Linux, BSD, etc.) and releasing it for free.

Anyway, just have to say that even after all these years it's just as good and addictive as it was back in 1992 when I bought the shrink wrapped box off the shelf at the local computer store.

I can only imagine how wonderful this would be with updated 3D (or even HQ sprites) but still the same type of gameplay on a 2D plane.

Also, I'm somewhat glad their petition to Activision to make a real sequel (Star Control 3 was an abomination made by another company) failed. I have a feeling that if it had succeeded we'd have an abomination similar to what is happening with Syndicate by EA (turning it into yet another FPS, UGH).

Anyway, if anyone wants to check out what is possibly one of the absolute BEST games ever made, you should check it out.

Regards,
SB

I might sound old fashioned but ... Oblivion! Started it back in 2005/6 and never finished. After Steam sale I bought it legally and I'm enjoying it quite a bit. Some texture packs and loads of patches + HD 6970 make this game visually enjoyable even in 2011.

Also me and my brother are on to a mission to get weapon 'medals' in Crysis 2 MP. I hate sniping in this game, but 1000 kills + 250 heads is required to unlock Gauss 'medal'
Shame we are banned on few good servers . If only we were cheating I could understand, but for just being lucky (or good) in that game?
