Default Displacement mapping on R300/R350

I wonder, if anyone ever tried to do something with displacement mapping on R300? DX9 caps show, that Radeons 9500/9700 (probably 9800 also) support pre-filtered displacement mapping, which means, that theirs capabilities are very limited. It seams that adaptive tesselation is not possible, and this pre-filtered displacement mapping is nothing more than a simple “get a value from memory (texture, without any filtering)”, that can be done without any special hardware on any vertex shader capable hardware...

Maybe someone from ATI could tell us something about this. I didn't find any source code or technical papers related to the DX9 displacement mapping. There are a lot of rumors and marketing slogans, but zero facts/examples....

Someone from ATi is giving a presentation at GDC about displacement mapping using vertex and pixel shaders.

there was nice session on displacement mapping at GDC on thursday.
the coolest thing was the render to vertex array demo on radeon using uberbuffers opengl extension.

Hopefully Ati will make these presentations available on the web site after GDC is over.
