Donald Fagen's "The Nightfly" (an oldie) is in the car stereo right now. Particularly love "Maxine" and "Ruby Baby".

I like that Donald Fagen Cd too, thanks for reminding me, haven't listened it for ages, must put it in my CD player as soon as I get home.
Those two tracks are my favorites too. Currently I'm in love with the Scissor Sisters I Don't Feel Like Dancing, but I know that love will not last long Last edited by rabidrabbit; 19-Oct-2006 at 08:18. |

Lets just say you're a bit to the "left" as far as metal goes. Ps, "this present darkness" is pure nu metal low tuned chug bullshit and that they play now is one tiny step above nu metal. (metalcore).

I'll just continue to listen what I like. Fall it under whatever genre is the new fad to call something. Be it black metal, death metal, nu metal, progressive metal, whatever, music is good for reasons far beyond whatever genre its placed in and I personally could seriously care less. Anyway, Mr. Bugnle - Desert Search for Techno Allah Wonder what category Mr. Bungle ever fell into..... |

I dont hate them because of the genre, silly, I use the tag to describe the sound. But they're crap if you're into true metal, not cheap imitations.

Opeth - Advent to Isis - Syndic Calls to Death - Misanthrope to John Zorn - Kachat to Meshuggah - Entropment to Pelican - Sirius to Tomahawk - Mayday to Mushroomhead - Ego Trip to Chimaira - Jade to Cynic - The Circle's Gone. That must certainly be impossible. Because death metal can not be liked by those who also like metalcore, and because those who like metalcore can not like progressive metal, and those who like progressive metal cant like avant garde, and so on and so forth. Hell, I even like early No Doubt. I cant help it, I love music and I listen to what I like no matter what I'm not suppose to like or dislike. |

Opeth is soooo much better, it's like you listen to some great music but still enjoy shitty music, and go as far to some shitty band is more aggresive then 99% death/black metal bands You're truly an enigma, I'll give you that. I'll say opeth isn't very heavy in the insane riffs, but the music is sooo much better than any metalcore band could even hope to muster. And real death metal bands are shitloads heavier than chimaira, it's not even like a comparison. And black metal bands are way darker than any metalcore band etc, so really I dont know why you're trying to put chimaira on some high podium when all they do is chug chug bullshit. If you're into chugs, atleast listen to bands who make it interesting, like Meshuggah. They're the kinds of rhythmic (albeit more groove based lately) guitar playing, bar none, and Frederick plays some realllly sweet and trppy leads. For some really wacky technical death metal you should listen to Necrophagist, if you havent already. It's a german guy who plays everything but the drums I believe.

Currently, it's a great time to be a Death Metal fan. There have been some awesome releases in the past 18 months: Amon Amarth - With Oden On Our Side (blew me away, might even be better than "Versus the Word" and a huge step forward from "Fate of Norns") Krisiun - AssassiNation (never been much of a fan of the "let's blast beat till everyone is dead" subgenre, and Krisiun prolly least of all, but this one is really, really good) Kataklysm - In the Arms of Devestation (interestingly, they toned down the blast beat crap quite a bit and the result is their best album so far, IMO. Great, great stuff.) Illdisposed - Burn Me Wicked (just WOWOMGWTF, even better than their incredible previous effort) Bolt Thrower - Those Once Loyal (BT are really dependable, everything they do is great but their latest one is their best since "...For Victory") Hypocrisy - Virus (Peter Tägtgren can't do wrong, and Virus is simply another very strong Hypocrisy album) That stuff more than makes up for In Flames going NuMetal. Wrt MetalCore... eh, some things are not supposed to mix. The Hardcore crowd and metalheads don't go well together. I swear, if I see another "violent dancing" Bruce Lee impersonator doing his Kung Fu shit right where I am standing, I'll do something that will land me in jail. I hate those clowns. That being said, MetalCore _is_ agressive, it's hard to beat the pure energy level of stuff like Heaven Shall Burn's album "Antigone", it punches you right in the face. But then again, HSB are probably one of the best MetalCore bands... |

Hypocrisy has done one wrong: Catch 22. Other than that, I love Peter's work and his vocals in Bloodbath is just awesome.
BTW, In Flames went "numetal" or at least away from good music when Soundtrack to Your Escape came out. I miss early In Flames so much. |

(re opeth) Opeth isn't for everyone, but you have to admit they're a step above most extreme metal bands, whether or not you're into what they're doing. Also their concerts are awesome, Mikael has lots of fun, playing games like having them name the riff he plays, death metal vox lessions etc. It's really too bad Martien had to leave opeth Prog>you And fuck metalcore, I only used to be able to tolerate killswitch, but their latest album is really crappy. Metalcore doesn't hit you anywhere near as hard as good old death metal does. Most of the shit is so formulated it takes away from anything good it couldh have had. I.e gotta have the "headbanger" breakdown, gotta have the in flames rip off chourus (all melodic) etc. Fuck that. Oh and fuckkkkk lamb of god too, they rip off meshuggah and not even tried to hide it. And they're really arrogant. Quote:
And come clarity is pretty good after them releasing soundtrack. I just like to say they went gay

I'll agree, Killswitch is terrible and so is Lamb of God, and I'll say that 99.9% of metalcore is terrible also. But Chimaira is a good band in my opinion......
And Come Clarity is pure crap. |

Had some fun with music today.
I ended up listening to some Faith No More today and had The Real Thing on and of course their cover of War Pings started playing. Once hearing FNM do it I had to hear Black Sabbath so I went digging up Paranoid and have been listening to that for the rest of the day. What a timeless album, even if not their best. |

I recently went on a CD binge (I won't touch downloads with a bargepole), one of which was Mezzanine by Massive Attack.
I thought Tear drop was OK when it first came out, nothing special, but having sat down and really listened to it, it's just gorgeous.

Mezzanine is one of the all-time greats in my book. Always good for a listen when in a melancholy mood.
Currently listening to Iced Earth - Burnt Offerings. |
