I was hoping to get in that range with my Tachyon G9700. Looks like around 380mhz is the limit, but then I've havn't exhausted all my options yet

With clock speeds greater than 400 and 17K+ 3D marks isn't this going to nullify the need for R350? I know several people think the R350 will be a change in architecture but having heard the rumour about ATI asking manufacturers to consider a specialist cooling system to acquire the clock rates I wonder just how different it will be compared to the R300 core?
Personally I think it'll equate to the above product and nothing more. Of course I'll gladly eat humble pie if ATI can prove me wrong but with these specs from the inquirer 400MHz/800, http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=7381 I'm struggling to think it will really offer anything more than a R300 other than a faster clock/memory rate? Note too that the 415 OCsystem doesn't even require a fan. Sure it's one large HS but the lack of noise wins me over immediately! I'd like to see it get some decent reviews especially against the Geforce FX as I think the FX is based on the same philosophy. I.E. Clock to the absolute max with exotic cooling methods. Of course the term exotic is questionable as todays exotic methods often become tomorrows norm! |

Side note about R350: There will definitely be some level of architectural refinement, it will not just be a lame clock bump.

Just kidding, but honestly if it is just a speed bump then that's cool! What kind of architectural refinement is needed at this time? Better Pixel Shaders .. don't see the point myself .. a more powerful VS unit? I believe it is in certain terms more powerful than NV30's. Better AA and AF though would be smashing - however I think I am content with 6X AA and 16X AF at this moment in time anyway and ATI have done a marvellous job that seems even more marvellous when you appreciate that no one has been able to compete with them on technology and performance and price even for some months now.

misae: I didn't really mean refinement in the sense of new features, I meant better re-optimisation, maybe the odd hardware fix here and there.
As in, it won't just be R300 + Clockspeed boost = R350

8x MSAA W-buffer Hardware TRUFORM Better aniso support (I still get some ugly artifacts when viewing textures from certain angles that are not there with my Ti4600, especially when using 16x) Constant colo(u)r compression drivers that support SSAA and MSAA+SSAA combinations at over 20 GB bandwidth and fillrates at 3200 they can't get away with any "the performance would be too bad" excuses at least personally I don't think we'll see any of those improvements though some bugs removed and performance optimizations plus a clockspeed boost, that's what I think the R350 will be |

sure they are few and far between but it's not like it would hurt anyone having the support there anyways it's not a biggie nor do I expect it |

I can choose Force W-Buffer in Rage3D... or does it just do nothing?

I thought this was pretty funny/ironic: "OCSystem.com is not responsible for any typographical errors." This can be seen at the bottom of the page.
Looking at the top of the page instead one sees a GIF with the words: "Optimized Gamming Performance" on it... Well, if OCSystem isn't responsible for that, then who the hell is? *G* |
