Default 9700 Pro concerns

Last go round with the Radeons there was a clock speed issue depending if you got a retail or OEM card. Is this still the case? Do I need to watch out? Or is a 9700Pro allways a 9700Pro? Any other comments regarding the card are welcome. I am going to make the big upgrade to a P4 2.4 gig and a 9700Pro that'll be an upgrade from a GF3 Ti200/P3850.

Thanks,

Joe

Also, is there a 9700 non Pro? I see info about it, but no cards.

As you see there are lots of non-pro cards. If you follow the links some of them may lead you to manufacturer sites where the specifications are spelled out.

In answer to your first question - the 9000Pro memory & clock speeds are always at least 325 core/310 ddr mem. Dont confuse in the old days OEM ATI built cards as being the same as new third party cards from Sapphire etal. They are retail card as well.

The lower clocked models are the 9700's.

Yes.. also do not mix up and confuse yourself with the 9000Pro and 9700Pro.

Well it seems that right now the 9700 non-Pro is the best way to go. It will probably OC close to Pro levels and it's about $235 for an OEM. I just can't see paying for a GeForce FX in a few months when none of the games are even going to be able to really utilize it for a while. The 9700 seemd like a great upgrade from my GeForce3 Ti200, but the P4 2.4gHz upgrade is first!
