Vacation follow-up! What hotel to get in NY?
We'd like to stay in the mid-town manhattan area and it'll be early/mid august, and not terribly expensive please. It'll only be for a few days so it wouldn't have to be with all kinds of comforts like spa n shit, just as long as there aren't any cockroaches and we can get one room with separate beds... I haven't slept with my dad since I was like 8 y/o or something I think and I'd hate to have to start again now!

What in USD do you consider expensive?... I'll actually be in NYC during the period of time for a conference...

Not sure, I'm not the one responsible for budgeting the trip.
 I've no idea in absolute terms, so I guess something reasonable in comparison to the relative price level of the city - which I hear is fairly high by US standards.
