A long time ago, I really liked the demo of Ascendancy and intended to buy the game ... until I figured out how simple it was to reset the turncount in the savegames with a HEX editor. By the time the game hit stores, I had already played the game to death (only other limitation of the demo were a small number of playable races) though.

I'm pretty sure that screwup cost them sales, maybe we'd have a sequel already if it wasn't for that demo. EaW on the other hand won't suffer the same fate, the SW brand is strong enough on its own to carry the game, demo MOD or not...

I tried two of the mods and its quite fun, but without the option to save the game to return later and only one type of map for space and land battles it gets old quick. Definitely extends the playtime of the demo significantly though. Whereas I only spent about 45 minutes with it the first time, I easily spent 3 hours on the modded demo.

The game is promising, I'm pretty sure I'm gonna pick it up once its out!
