Default Catalyst 6.1 = broken DirectShow?

A few days ago I noticed most movie/audio files were broken and wouldn't play. After reinstalling several different codec packs and going nowhere I stumbled across this:

Looking at their forum there is quite a few people complaining of this problem after installing Cat6.1. I don't know if this is true so, has anyone experienced this? For instance .WMVs no longer play for me but .MOVs are just peachy.

Don't know if it's particularly helpful to you, but I've had no problems with 6.1, and I actually uninstalled with the ATI driver cleaner.

A little break in my lurking to post this link. Spike feels it is likely a problem with driver cleaner. I had to do a xp repair myself. http://www.driverheaven.net/showthread.php?t=96860

Well, Catalyst 6.1 is broken much more. My fps plummeted big time in World of Warcraft and Natural Selection 3.1 (a Half Life 1 MOD). I was not the only ATi user with that problem in those games. Going back to 5.13 solved my performance problems.

I installed the omegas 1st then had problems with avis and my HDTV card would spontaneously reboot my machine so unintsalled and put the cat6.1's on - simialr so am back to omega 5.12's with no problems. Think I will wait as I don't have time to stuff around right now.

Another one: some users have problems with TV-out... with Cat6.1 (possibly with 5.13 too, but I'm not sure) they can't enable the tv-output.
