I'm really, really impressed. And that doesn't happen very often these days. Valve should offer these guys a job.

Surely the ultimate goal of the project is to get a solid foot into the game industry. The trailer certainly looks awesome and the project has been in the works for ever now (look at the date on the first post!). It's pretty impressive that it's stuck together for this long. I hope by 2009 they mean January 1st.

This and "They Hunger: Lost Souls" need to get their asses in gear and release already. What are they waiting for, anyway?

Grrrr, I really can't wait for this to come out. Jonsing for HL1. One of the best games ever made.

Hopefully they recreate it without ruining it.

SB

I don't understand why Valve isn't funding these guys and lending some art/coding power so that the project can be completed anytime this decade... The screens I've seen so far (all of them over a year old by now though) look so yummy, surely Valve can see the value in lending some official support?

I mean, they got cash oozing out their ears anyway, so why not do it? :P

I have a feeling Valve have for the most part abandoned the PC other than Steam and porting games from console.

Would that probably explain the fact that no more new Half Life episodes have come out in eons and from what the interviews I have read they are not even looking at that series any more at the moment...argh consoles should just die.

Well, he DID work as a high-level exec at microsoft at one point from what I've read, but what about him (other than his voluminous waistline) makes him a giant liar?

Omg, I thought that project was totally dead... I am very pleased to hear this. Very pleased indeed.

Does anyone even want HL1 in Source anymore? Anyone who hasn't played it should play the original, because the changes made to the AI routines in BM are going to make the game worse. Everything outside of the presentation holds up really well and shames many modern entries in the genre.

If somone wants HL meets today's production values, Episode 2 is the closest in terms of quality to the first game.

Sure, why wouldn't we want it?

Original HL looks absolute shit today, it's nearly painful to play it's so bad. It's only for nostalgia that I've booted up the game these past ten years or so. An updated, much more realistic-looking game would on the other hand be quite interesting to play through, if for no other reason so I could gripe about any and all changes they may have done to the level layouts and so on.

yes please! gameplay wise, HL1 still quite good, is different and a lot more pure than the current games, but still great fun,
graphics and sound is just to dated, I think it suffers more from its age than the rest of the game, so...

I played the entire Hl1 2 or 3 times, and I can't wait to play Black Mesa Source,

Woah, you must be playing without a creative labs soundcard, Half Life is a great example of EAX done right.

RPS recently had a writeup about the mod's rough ride:

Main thing I'd miss from the original is the soundtrack. It still works as well as anything "modern" in delivering mood/ambience to the game. Be nice if there were an easy way of functionally dropping it in.
