Default Unreal Tournament 2007 to be PS3 launch title

Gamespot states that the January 06' issue of PSM is announcing (proudly) that UT2K7 will be a PS3 launch game at the (tentative) Spring 06' launch date of the PS3. So it seems like we've got official word that the PS3 IS getting UT2007.

Just what the Japanese want, presumably, an FPS.

It make sense that Epic would want a showcase for Unreal engine on the PS3...

Wow is odd to see so little post on this news,as i think this was been fight here were ever or not it would be on PS3.

Never the less this is a great + for the PS3,also tell me that Sony does indeed has plans to release the PS3 in US on spring 2006.

Cuz UT 2007 is not a game that apeal to Japanese gamers.

I find it strange that sony would want to launch with a north ameircan title like this in japan. My guess is they probably don't have enough Japanese made titles ready for launch, and this game could be ready wihtout a problem due to the game being ready for PC around the same time frame.

I'm not much of a UT fan though. Which is why I was more interested in gears of war from Epic, it was something different from them.

I can assure you that there never was any real about about that. Just some figures on this board who liked to cast doubt cause of certain motives. I also like to know when the PC version launches and what the differences are between them.

Well that was quite clear from the beginning on I think. It's a perfect title for displaing the eye-candy capabilities of the shiny new piece of HW like PS3 and will sell like hot cakes.

Or are they going to launch in Japan and US simultaneously, or even in US before Japan?!?!?
It would be odd indeed if they launched only in Japan in March, and UT2007 would be available there as launch title,, with the US and EU launches, where fps games are more at home, coming later that year.
I personally don't theink it'll be a Japan launch title if only Japan gets the console in spring.

Looking at Unreal Whatevership for PS2 (dreadful is not the right word, i'll think of something later), i can only magine how this will be compared to really good games on PS3. As good as the UnrealEngine3 is and as good as the whole PR campaign telling us how easy it is to get good results on every platforms, it's an engine made for PC, and it will always be.

Personally i'm much more interested in what the Insomniac FPS will be like. Didn't look amazing in the short video at E3 but i have much more faith in Insomniac than on Epic.

But hey, i don't wanna sound too pessimistic...

funny, because both consoles have Pc-GPU architectures and both have Cpus from Powerpc's...

the "graphics" part of the game are a sure thing on these consoles, the Cpu part requires changes (duh) but its not "teh impossible task"

Yeah but PC's were struggling to run this thing properly. Well Like you said its home is the PC though. I rather prefer it there myself.
Great news for PS3 though.

Perhaps Sony has been talking to Epic about their release plans and the PS3 will come out in NA next spring?

I think its very possible that Sony could be changing up their usual release strategy.

Remember this line from PSM?

Quote:
PSM: Are you still committed to a spring launch for PS3?

Kaz Hirai: We are still strategizing over that, and we've not come to a decision yet as to whether we want to with Japan first, the same time, three territories at the same time....

Anything is possible. But we just gotta play the waiting game for now.

The point I was trying to make is, we dont know, and anything is possible.
Until Sony tells us their official plans, everything is speculation to me.

But I guess I can't blame you for doubting what you doubt, considering Sony has pretty much followed the same strategy since the ps1 I beleive.

But like I said.

You never know. It could go either way. We just have to play the waiting game.

Well if you want evidence, just look at what EA recently said about doubting a PS3 release before the end of summer outside of Japan. Sony isn't going to give Epic a heads up on a spring release in NA and Europe and not tell EA first.

I think anyone looking for a sping release of PS3 outside of japan is thinking in a wishful manner. All signs (what little signs we have) are pointing to second half 2006 at the earliest.

Will it be online? I mean this would be a good way to kick start whatever online service Sony has planned or just have some online ready games at launch.

But we don't have any signs per se. EA says one thing and Epic says another. Right now we are shooting in the dark. CES or Feburary Sony event should clear the confusion.

Sure you have signs.... Whether you choose to ignore certain signs is up to you. We've seen messages ove rthe past 4 months from a few different publishers dating titles in the second half of 2006 for PS3. It's not a stretch to think that's when it's coming out. If it was indeed spring, then these publishers would already have dates locked down.

By the way, epic hasn't said anything...
