I have a real problem with those allocations. 20-25% and in some cases as high as 40% are the core bundle. Many people are going to be forced into getting those and having to pay for costly upgrades

Yea they are high at those stores . Gaming stores though its a diffrent story.

we got our latest numbers in , 30 premium 3 core .

THe core units will sell much better at bestbuy to parents than it would at a gamestop

of what ? They launched 2 systems . Numbers are skewed greatly towards premium units .

For the hardcore gamers who they claim the premium bundle is for , they would have had thier systems preordered right away .

Its really just those that didn't preorder right away and waited or never peordered that have problems .

Look gamestop and ebs along with other stores started taking preorders back in may or before that , those who preordered right away are taken care of . Those late to the party get whats left oever

MS is playing a very dangerous game, if I had only the Core system to choose from because all premiums were sold out, I would opt out of getting the 360 because I'd feel like I was getting ripped off. They should be providing more of what everyone wants, but no they're trying to fuck some desperate customers up the ass.

the 4 stores within a 12 mile radius of me are averaging 46 Premium 12 core.

I"m getting mine at Game Crazy (for sure) on launch, but this seems like a reasonable number of units per store.

MS aren't FORCING anything. They're not kidnapping children and demanding the parents buy Core systems or the kid gets it! If people don't want Core systems, wait for the next batch of Full systems. MS released two SKU's for two different price-points, and need to provide both SKU's for both types of customers. I imagine they've commissioned regional market research to try and guess the right balance of Core:Full systems to supply. They might be wrong, and maybe some people will be disappointed. Tough! Having to wait a week or three to get a Full XB360 system over an already available Core system is far from the worst thing that can happen to a person. Count yourself bloody lucky you're alive and well and able to afford to buy and run a games console. The majority of people on this planet haven't that luxury.

I don't understand your POV, because about 80% of the consoles are premium and because the core version is 100$ less, I mean it's meant for people who don't need hd right away. I'm sure there are people who want's to get the 299$ system, eventhough you have a different opinion.

Or, just get the Core system and buy the HDD, now you are back to 399 and your out of what the "limited time only" remote and the headset. I actually think people who feel like they are missing out on something would be very happy to grab the core and HDD, and just "miss out" on the headset and remote.

No its your choice what you buy. Ms is not forcing you to do anyhting. You had the option of going out and preordering the units months ago . You choose not to .

If you don't want to buy a 360 core then don't buy it , don't buy it and say oh ms ripped me off. It was your choice .

He's saying that if you there are SOLD OUT of X360's and the only thing remaining are core systems that could cause alot of resentment in people. I totally agree. Having to buy the core system when you didn't want it would feel like you are being fleeced.

So you can say "Well don't buy it then, they're not forcing you" but if someone goes to the store cash in hand, and has to return home empty handed, they may very well say "fuck it" and wait for a PS3 instead. It could create resentment which is the point.

Actually from those bestbuy numbers it's 70/30. I'm not worried about myself, I have a friend who didn't pre-order, but he's a huge Xbox fan. He didn't know about the 360 as soon as us hardcore folks. So if he's stuck with only being able to get a Core system at launch, he's gonna be pretty pissed and probably not buy it. Which is a lost sell for MS. Since launch is so supply limited, MS should be focused more on providing what people want(atleast during the launch period). So, I can get either the Premium (X360, Wireless Controller, Remote Control, 20GB HDD + Headset) for $499.

Or Core (X360 + 20GB HDD) for $530. No wireless controller, no headset, no remote AND it's $30 more expensive.

Ya I think that will cause a little bit of resentment on people who are put in that position. They would've mitigated alot of this by making their peripherals more reasonably priced. A $60 HDD would've worked wonders. With a $60 HDD both system are a good buy, without one looking like a rip-off.

and from gamestop numbers its 10 premium for every core . So thats 90% -10% . So the average is going to be much closer to 80-20 than 70-30

It doesn't affect me because i didn't wait till the last minute. My sister however is no so lucky and preordered byh er college and isn't getting one. Sucks for her but what can you do. Its her fault . She will just have to wait or buy a core .

No diffrent than the ps2 launch where most unist were sold out months before launch and you had to buy the system in bundles you didn't want .

Anyone know if bestbuy has a standardized way of selling these things across all stores? I heard walmart is giving out tickets at 10pm and wonder what BB plans are in this regard.

Eh, i dont think people will resent it all that much once the take it home and start playing with it. And anyone dropping $500 or so on this will be smart enough to realize they had a choice. The REAL resentment is going to be the kid that opens a core at christmas and wanted a premium. He got the core becuase thats all his folks, who were oblvious to this gift until too late, could only track down a core, AND didnt buy him a HD to play his xbox 1 games with either.

This is only the first shipment though, and MS is hell bent on having "360 sold out" signs pasted on every damn store come the 25th of November (i.e. "black friday" the largest shopping day of the year in the US).

Once the lather up everyone into a frenzy over the things, there may be a LOT more coming in wave 2 then we think so there may be some christmas miracles after all.

the investment for little johny wont be big as the little kid wont be streaming movies or storing large files on the pc . He can make due with a 64mb card.

Then again he can buy a 100$ hardrive and only miss out on a headset and a remote .

Someone goes into a store with $300 wanting a Core system, and finds they've all sold out, and now MS are trying to force on him a Premium system for an extra $100 which the customer doesn't want. Curse that evil MS for cynically manipulating their stock amounts to force people into buying alternatives! So either th customer ponies up an extra $100 and feels fleeced and resentful, or doesn't buy the system and thinks about getting the Revolution instead. Or maybe, just maybe, comes back next week when the store has some more stock in.

I've been into shops plenty of times for things that aren't currently in stock. I don't get angry and don't buy alternatives if I've made a choice for that particular item. Every console that's ever launched has AFAIK sold out, and had people finding there was no stock and leaving empty handed. IF someone went for a PSP and the store had sold out, do you think they'd take the money they've been saving for a PSP and buy a DS instead, just because it's in stock even though it's not the system they wanted? Or when DS launched, would someone who wanted DS but not get one because stocks ran out decide to wait for PSP, or go back next week and buy the system they really want.

If someone wants Premium, they can wait for a restock if the shop sells out. If someone wants Core and the shop's sold out, they can wait for a restock. Running out of stock can't be equated to MS forcing people to buy alternatives just because they're offering two SKUs for two different customer types. Unless MS can supply more stock than people want, there'll always be someone going without. There is much to be said about simplicity. This is the first time we've had 'dual skus' in this industry. This is not something most consumers are going to expect or even appreciate. It'll be even more frustrating to find out the version you really want is sold out. Sure that person may go and buy the Core system instead, but there's an equal oppurtunity that they'll just pass on the whole thing entirely. I for one won't settle for anything but the best version of a product or nothing at all. That's just me.

As for buying a different system, it has nothing to do with getting 'angry'. Plenty of people do all the time(especially during the christmas season.) For example I wanted a ipod, they were sold out so I bought a Samsung MP3 player instead(and love it.) I wanted an Xbox, but had to get a Gamecube instead because they were sold out(it was a gift.) Don't underestimate the importance of system availability. People in general are impatient. Why do you think prices for out-of-stock items go for so much on Ebay?? It's human nature, if I can't get what I want from you right now or if I feel like you're trying to screw me with a gimped version(core system), I'll take my money elsewhere.

When I used to work at best buy they did not except any pre-orders and reserves where only for a couple of hours, basically you needed to get a hold of a salesmen who was feeling nice and their boss had to allow it or not know. People would sleep outside the night before. If you don't have a preorder this is likely your best option.

Yes, I s'pose for Chirstmas season and presents people won't be as happy to wait. Except that at the moent if you want an XB360 there is no alternative, so you either buy an alternative SKU or wait for a restock (there's 3+ weeks from launch to Christmas). I don't think anyone wanting an XB360 for Christmas is going to consider getting a PS3 instead if the SKU they want has run out of stock.

I appreciate it's not ideal, and some people might be disgruntled at buying an alternative. But ot's still wrong to say MS are forcing them to do anything like buy a Core and HDD upgrade instead of a sold out Premium SKU. For the upset the dual SKU causes, there's also the people happy that they can get the console for $100 less. It's a compromise and a fair one at that I feel. The only alternative would be to lose the Core SKU and launch at $400, which would upset people by pricing out of their range (though I'm with all the peeps who think this would have been the right the way for MS to go!)

I would agree with this statement if memoryy cards were more reasonable. But due to the overpriced memory cards(which MS has locked out 3rd party alternatives) it's really only $60 less. A HDD, Backwards compatibility, wireless controller, headset, HD cables and remote for only $60? Most conscious consumers are going to want that version, anybody that gets the core pack is getting ripped-off IMO. But hey to each his own.
