Default PS3 Gundam video @ TGS

http://games.kikizo.com/news/200510/059.asp

Kikizo has just uploaded some PS3 traliers cut from TGS, including the slightly updated version of the PS3 Gundam video with shattering buildings and a new mobile suit, just compare them with the older versions. Gametrailers has a glimpse of it in their PS3 montage with better quality HD cam, but other than that AFAIK it's the first time the full clip of it is shown online.

EDIT: Removed the direct link which is no worky now.

That looks a lot slicker. Some of the building destruction needs some physics work though. Fell apart a little too easily. But hey, nobody likes a nitpicker.

It's odd they've got this cinematic montage again. I remember seeing a version of the original footage with some dude/dudette playing real time. Maybe Sony are issuing edicts in a dictatorial fashion; i.e. being uber-careful on presentation. It certainly works for me.

Wait, you guys think the demo was realtime? Seriously? I could have sworn it was just an extended version of the E3 trailer, but... ah, nevermind. I'm still in disbelief though... this IS bandai we're talking about... then again .hack//GU does look VERY good.

I think there was a much "worse" Gundam vid doing the rounds from the PS meeting where there was a Bandai rep on a stage "playing" the game. There wasn't any buildings damage and obviously the presentation was a lot worse.
Or maybe I'm confused. It's my age.
Anyway, I'm off to bed - if anyone cares I'll try to find the vid I'm talking about later.
Cheers!

oh I can see it now. Wow the animation and physics have taken a step up. Looks like Bandai are hard at work. Looks great.

Bandai usually offloads developement work onto other contractors for their franchise games, but this PS3 Gundam is handled by BEC (Bandai Entertainment Company) which is Bandai's own internal studio or subsidiary just like Polyphony Digital of SCEI. Probably Namco is not involved as the merger was pretty recent though they worked together in another Gundam game for PS2.

one, do you know off-hand which dev is handling .hack//GU? Is it Bandai themselves?

I don't normally like gundam but the footage is impressive. If they can only make a decent transformers game that looks and plays like this then I'd be more "in to" it. Looks good though, but it's true, the building shattering into a billion pieces look out of place.

I think scepticism is borne more out of Bandai's perceived capability as a developer rather than the hardware's capability. I think PS3 is well capable of that, but Bandai is considered fairly average technically, or less than average even. Colour me very impressed if we get this kind of quality from a dev like Bandai at launch (I do believe this was mooted as a launch title some time ago?).

Anyway, it is a really nice video. The destruction makes me

It's developed by CyberConnect2 as you see in here.

The games BEC lists on its website includes only 4 games,

DigiMon World (1999/PS1)
DigiMon World 2 (2000/PS2)
Kidou Senshi Gundam (2000/PS2)
Zeonic Front: Kidou Senshi Gundam 0079 (2001/PS2)

so they are unprolific as a developer it seems. The main business of Bandai is oriented to anime, toy, and game publishing business.

Gah... I'm sorry one, I should have just done the search myself. Lazy me.

I thought perhaps it might have been the same team, graphically the .hack series has been pretty impressive, well, at least in comparison to other bandai games. I thought there might have been a little pool of talent tucked away in there, but... ah well.

Think it otherwise, even a Pokemon-ripoff developer can create this good-looking game on PS3!

I understand being skeptical at E3, but did they not show the game running in real-time on a Alpha machine in July at the Sony event? After that happened shouldn't people be like "wow these guys are stepping up their game". Do devs have to be on the black list of bad graphics for life? That Kung Fu game that NT made wasn't all that pretty (no offense DeanoC), yet they have made a spectacular looking game so far in Heavenlysword.
