Default New madden 360 shots

New madden 360 shots. If this doesn't shut up the people about the previous shots I don't know what will.

What a strange resolution. Did you scale this up from 720p, or down from 1080p? It looks better than the other shots out there, but unfortunately still not the same as the rendered stuff. Still, it's getting better.

The reflections in the helmets have no people in them. Yeah, yeah pointless, but something that I noticed.

Haha -- I was going to comment on that, but I wasn't sure if anyone else cared.

Muwahahahaha

Definate improvement.

Helmets = drool
Faces = drool
Ball = double drool
Stadiums = drool
Texture detail = drool (e.g. jerseys, faces, helmets, ball)

A LOT of good stuff there. But there are still areas I would like to see improved:

The field. Even carpet (turf) has some texture to it. After seeing the nice paralax mapping in Kameo and the small poly grass in Tiger Woods I am guessing something could happen to make it come more to life. The hard to read 10 yard line in the Brooke's picture is another area.

DOF. I think a mild DOF filter would add a lot to images.

Low poly (e.g. look at Brooke's elbow, hand). Understandable considering the stadium, fans, and the player detail--and you wont notice such from normal playing angles--but it looks kind of funny. Seeing as devs just got final beta kits I can excuse this for a launch title. It is not the end of the world.

Prebaked jersies. They bother me. They just don't seem to bend/interact right (having watched the movies). Not sure what they could do to make it better that would be "easy" (22 players with cloth similation for something like a jersy that is barely EVERY interactive seems like a waste). Although the other new shots with the thigh pads on the legs look VERY good. That was one of my big complaints and one of the areas the CGI kicked butt... the pads on the leg now have more life due to better shadowing.

Arm textures (e.g. Harrison's arms look odd). Kind of wierd.

Shadowing and lighting. The pics look good, but I think there is a lot of room for improvement in this area.

Animation. I am sure this is an area Q and I will disagree. I play every Madden and I am tired of mocap, at least Madden's version. e.g. They may mocap hits from 16 different angles for double team tackles. That means you only ever see the same 16 animations once a double tackle is initiated. While a new animation system would be hard to create and even HARDER to balance for play balance/gameplay reasons, I think it is a better approach. I posted a link of a "behavior animation" system the other day that gave some examples of football animations. It was kinetic/physics based that inertwined with mocap, and was "bevarior" oriented in that if a player was hurt he would limp, if a certain joint was hit he reacted in a certain way, if he was scared he would get "skittish" etc... It looked very organic. As they said "every hit would be totally different". Maybe in 2007 eh

Btw, Madden has come a long way. Madden 2001:

Madden 2001 #1
Madden 2001 #2
Madden 2001 #3

And Madden 98

Uh yeah... definate improvement!

Next-gen Madden needs more improvement though.

Ah, thanks. Here are the new ones, in case others cannot see:

Well, call me crazy, but this old shot still looks noticeably better to me. Mainly, it's the lighting. The new shots have a really simplistic looking lighting model.

i think im liking these new shots more just because everything is so much sharper and defined. maybe it was the snow/enviroment that made everything look blurry in that old teaser.

I don't expect much improvement on 2006 for 360 (over the other version, PS2, Xbox, etc) till the 2007 season. EA probably figure that the 360 version would sell only a fraction of the current-gen versions as Madden fans already spend $50 on em.

Yeah, but the reason the textures are so much sharper in these shots is because they were stills rendered out at 5120x2880. I doubt that level of sharpness will translate over to 720p. It's really going to come down to the animation and post-processing effects anyway, since you play from a birds-eye view.

This generation is definitely going to be about art and not the technology.

Repost the images please. Do they look better or they still look like madden 2001?

The screens look nice, though what I'm still waiting for in a sports game of this caliber is dirt playing a much higher role, i.e.: when a character falls on into the grass that his clothes start to get dirty and have influences like this have a bigger impact on the way characters move and play. I think these close ups is really fine, but IMO some of the details is a bit overkill since you'll be playing the game from a much further POV.

No EA still has a long way to go. They need to show me more or I'll wait until 2007. And at the end of the day why do SOOO many people care about the outside of the graphics when the inside such as physics and animation look HORRIBLE!!

EA is not even close. I repeat not even CLOSE. They need to step their game way up to impress me. You know what impressed me from EA? Fight Night 3 and Def Jam next-gen. Those two guys have next-gen written all on them. Those two games couldn't even come close to being redone on the current systems. Yet what EA has showed so far is not too far from what Sega was doing LAST YEAR.
