Default The new Quake IV Trailer..

..is pretty damn sweet.

http://www.gamershell.com/download_10247.shtml

Looks more like a WW2 game than an alien shooter.

Nice sound effects. *BOOM* BOOM*

Hmm... I continue to be not that impressed with Quake 4 but I have confidence in Raven and the squad gameplay is just want I wished for so I'll check out the demo when it's out. MP looks very good though; a proper followup to Q3A's tight gameplay.

Now ET: Quake Wars, that I'm rather impressed by.

Mordenkainen, have you actually watched the video linked above?

I think it's fairly impressive - in terms of atmosphere and action, rather than graphics, per se - though the smoke and fire look pretty nice.

I wasn't particuarily impressed by the graphics. Maybe because of that huge black triangle on the rock mound we see half-way through, among other uglyness. Call me picky...

Yes I've watched it but it's hard for me to gauge exactly how the game will play from these (trailers and such) so I'm mostly talking about the "shock & awe" gfx factor. For instance, Prey is looking to me far more impressive from a graphics standpoint.

They have to fix some floating characters. It's a trivial thing, isn't it?

I did notice one of the Strogg vapourizing in the background ala UT2k3/4. Not sure what was going on there.

I think I'm gonna like the shotgun (although I think it looks weird )

Wow, somehow they managed to take Quake and turn it into...

SOLDIER OF FORTUNE 3: MERCENARIES IN SPACE!!!!!

Which is not to say it looks bad, it just doens't look anything like Quake, and has a very strong resemblance to the SoF games (or at least what little I've played of them via their demos).

It is CRS!! Corps Removal System!
It reminde me of CRS in Elite Force 1 (Raven made lame first, and Ritual made amazing second part of that game)!
Strog AI sucks!

Thumbs down That's impressive?

I don't know what video you saw, folks, but the one I just downloaded looked like a low polygonal turd.

Just take that stuff away, I don't want to see that stuff again, it's ugly!

Damn! When I look at screens like this, I just don't understand why people still listen to JC as if he was the 3D RT graphics messiah...

Well of course the low polygon count is because of the shadowing method again. I don't know. I never really imagined that in 2005/6 we'd have characters and enviros with polygon counts similar to Quake 2. Yeah they fake detail with fancy texture layering, but it obviously doesn't work that well. Who woulda thought shadowing would come with such a high price...

The video wasn't all that impressive to me really. I'll have to see how it actually feels in play but there seemed to me to be a very unrealistic look to the gameplay... We'll see..

What's with marines of the future building dark, hellish, goth-like bases? LOL.

I have always found Raven's games lacking in artistic quality and I am dissapointed with IDs choice to have them make Quake 4, but I don't think that has any bearing on Carmacks prowess as a programer.

hehe, i guess it does seem a bit like that
still, it looks more like a Quake game [QuakeII] than the first video, which looked like D00M3 imho
tbh it looks like the movie Starship Troopers more than anything else to me - except the baddies are Strogg

i think the shotgun looks good
they've obviously got the artists and modellers working hard to make things not look so D00Mey

If you actually played D3 then you know it is a good example of where screencaps do not do justice to the actual thing in motion. To me shadows have always been an integral factor and I remember being excited to use gl_shadows 1 command back in the day even though it looked crappy. As such I actually quite liked the way D3 looked, and look forward to Q4 as well.

The gameplayvid from QC05 /not the q4 trailer/ looked really good.
I have a couple of questions regarding this.
First, whats JC "megatexture"?
Second there seems to be alot of outdoor action in Q4, i just think that the D3 engine isnt as dated as many thinks.
It will progress in time..

Meh, never played Quake games for the SP in the first place. And I think Raven will create a freaking awesome MP, SoF2 was a game I spent about 3 years playing in CAL-I, fun times.

It's a way to get huge terrain textures past the hardware limit of 2048x2048 (the textures used are 32.000x32.000).

Alot of outdoor action in Q4? Then you'll like this:

Oh yes thats the title i looking forward to the most as i love ET and hope they can bring the "spirit" of the game in QW.

Btw has there been a change in the engine to allow the Vertexshader do the things that in D3 was done on the Cpu?
