The Inquirer has another ‘report’ on what they feel is the situation behind the rumours over the potential buyout of ST Microelectronics graphics division. According to them the negotiations are actually quite far down the line however they are into the details of hammering out the nitty-gritty of IP issues:

The story is that Canaan-able firm Via is in discussions to buy the graphics division of ST Microelectronics, although there's still a little bit of negotiation to be done.

Sources say that that although the 3D intellectual property does belong to IMG, the Kyro semiconductors have some ST Micro intellectual property in there as well.

And there's the rub. Via, ST Micro and old Img are, we understand, in tete-a-tete-a-tete discussions over these intellectual property complexities.

Given the source of the report take that for what you will. However, VIA have scheduled a press conference at this weeks CeBit, it will be interesting to see if this is what they are wanting to discuss.
