A week before the forum change (to vBulletin), or so, I started having problems with the icons denoting if a topic had unread posts. This has persisted to this day. I tried deleting one Beyond3D cookie that I found, but this didn't seem to affect anything. This is very annoying because I cannot tell if there is a new post in a topic now without opening that topic and, even then, I am not sure if I should trust the new/no-new post icon per thread. These read/unread icons seem very random to me.
Is anyone else experiencing this? I have tried with and without proxy and it doesn't seem to change anything. I'm using IE with Win XP SP2 with software firewall disabled from behind a NAT router. ADDITION: Furthermore, since about a month, at least, I have had problems where I would read a post (allowing the page to fully load, waiting for ads etc) but it would still be marked unread. This was even before the problem seemingly migrated to the thread status not changing to "no new posts" even when I had reloaded threads several times to "read" them and then confirming that thread topic page was all "read". Hmmm.
The problem seems to have fixed itself as of today. I still have problems where individual threads will not be registered as read (and I must read them multiple times for it to register), but this is a problem I had even before this issue of the main thread tree (sections) not corresponding with un/read threads within. However, it seems that even if one section is all read, I sometimes must still visit that section (to see all threads listed as read) for the root section to trigger an "all read" and change the icon correspondingly. At least it isn't 'random' anymore. Did something change on the server end over the weekend that may have caused this improvement?

For some reason the forum software doesn't like jumping from thread back to forum index(s) - if you read a thread, go back to the forum that the thread was in it and then go to a forum index it will register the thread as read, if you jump directly from the thread to the forum index or nother forum it doesn't register.

By "jump" you mean clicking on links, right? (as opposed to using the history/back buttons)
It seems to work fine either way for me. The only thing I don't like (and it happened in the previous forum also) is the reset time, where all threads are marked read. If you spend a little more time putting more thought into your posts you can end up having all threads' status reset. If you leave the browser idle, the same thing happens. |

I had trouble in both FF and IE with the previous board not showing threads with new posts properly. It would work as long as I kept the window with B3D always open, but if I closed it down and then revisited the site it was more or less random if it showed new threads or not.
This board is a bit better, at least for me. It does seem to occationally forget to show new threads in the topic view of a forum even if the window has been kept open, but it doesn't happen often.

ooooh so THAT's how it works. Yes i see the problem now, everytime we read a thread we have to go back to the forum the thread is in, we can't jump to either the index or other forums from the thread itself or the forum won't register that we've read that thread. Kinda defies the point of having a "jump" option though doesn't it... |
