How do you make a ROP orthogonal to the framebuffer in the first place

The letters on the chip look weird, like they have the wrong perspective.

The resistor pattern looks unique to me so I would say it was genuine ( although it is from memory I do not recall ever seeing an ATi chip package having so many present ).

Results soon to follow I guess, the waiting might soon be over.

Notice that, down-right, you can see the upper half of a motherboard mounting hole (at least that's what I think it is)... it could be a chipset chip after all.

Maybe it is XI800

Roman numerals aren't that familiar on that side of the earth...

Edit: I counted 3 mounting holes. they could be for THE dual slot cooling device.

Edit 2: on the lower right corner it can be seen a 45 angle mounted chip.
it can't be found that easy on a motherboard. it could be a memory chip

That means nothing in itself IMHO. Also, it could be capacitors as well, they both look pretty much the same. I could imagine those capacitors are needed to reduce interferances introduced through high clock speed?

But I think the photo could as well be genuine, with R520 approaching the availability and most AIB partners sitting in China/Taiwan where HKEPC guys are.

All just stupid speculations of mine, though...

That's fake, and a very poorly done one at that. It literally looks like someone drew the "black" with a distorted Photoshop layer (never even bothered to use a shape layer which would have gotten rid of the ugly jaggies distorting a regular layer shows), then pasted the ATI logo and text on it (looks like they actually tried to find a decent replica of the etched font but failed there too). Finally they tried to adjust the perspective properly but failed miserably. Really badly done.

Yeah, after another couple cups of coffee the black is obvious as hell...thanks.

What is the black thing in the bottom right hand corner? Whether it is fake or not, it kinda looks like a memory chip.

And yet the resistor pattern is a dead-ringer for the other one we saw, and it isn't the same exact one, as this one is more scratched up.

"ATI" and "R520" might be fake, but the chip looks very real. And it's none I've seen yet.

1.26ns should be interesting (and ridiculously expensive) ~ 1600Mhz and > 50GB/s bandwidth.

Quote:
Our friends at HKEPC has gotten themselves a R520 card and it will probably be officially known as Radeon X1800 when launch in early October. Interestingly, there are 16, 24 and 32 pipes versions but there are only 10 pieces of the 32 pipes versions exist currently. The core clock of the card is 650Mhz+ and memory at 1400Mhz. The R520 card uses 1.26ns GDDR3 memories. The 32 pipes R520 performance will exceed the GeForce 7800GTX.

With large quantities of GDDR3 700MHz memory being ordered for XBOX 360, the availability of 800MHz 512Mb speed/density memory will probably increase, and both go down in price in fairly short order.

That's the type of ram I'd rather speculate for R580 though

No one contests the 32 pipe? I thought everybody was inclined to 16 pipes.... Well, if true, 32 pipes at 600+Mhz what can I say? New king of the hill? But, will we see the new king anytime soon and in quantities?

If there are only 10 cards with 32 pipes running, then it isn't a true sku. And I hope it isn't named the X1800. Ugh.
