Default Exclusive face plates for perorders on x360 systems

Today the microsoft rep told us that they are going to do a special promotion for xbox 360 face plates . Depending on where you preorder you will get a special face plate . The designs and which stores involved are undecided but i'm assuming that gamestop will be one of them (other wise why tell us )

Swappable faceplates: The new "Headcasting"
A feature that nobody asked for, nobody wants, and doesn't even work that well.

Edit: Thanks for the info, though. Never hurts to hear about special offers.

I don't know about that... some people have a home entertainment setup with a set "look". Either wood grain, dull black, silver, grey, shiney-black, whatever.

If they have a black-glossy one like the PSP that would look perfect next to my all glossy-black/silver PC.

Same reason I like how Sony has different console colors... the black one looks great for my setup, but the white and silver looked nasty imo. They would be very much out of place for my stuff.

Yeah, but unless they have their AV equipment (including their X360) in a stack, with the sides enclosed, you'll see this big white flowing box with a completely different front face on it. IMO it just looks stupid. MS should've just made a few different case colors.

Didn't care about it when I first heard of it. But after seeing the 360, I actually want one as I'm planning on buying a complete home entertainment system next year. That white box is going to look out of place along with all those grey/silver. But it seems I don't have to worry about PS3's color or even Revolution.

I have a rack i guess in a black case so i get all my components silver . My dvd player , my platinum gc (guess its close enough ) my tv that sits above it , my sat reciver , my dreamcast . The way it is unless your right on top of the rack you wont be able to see anything but the front of the units . This way i can just get a silver face .

Other than that its just something nice. Its not a big deal but the ipod skins do sell well

The faceplates are great. People who don't care won't get one. Those who do - will. It's pretty simple really.

I think that the face plates make the system itelf ugly. Nothing like having a solid white console that suddenly brakes into another pattern on the front. I don't see how thats cool...unless all you can see is the front part of the console and not the back end. All and all in my opinion these faceplates will always make the 360 look awkward.

A fake wood grain plastic face plate would perfectly match the fake wood grain on many american cars and TVs, but it would look even more fake and out of place on a white x360.

If the console had been black as default, the replacable faceplates would have worked much better. Now the only colors I would consider would be translucent blue/green/amber etc, that would boost the general iMaccyness of the console and might actually look nice. Anything and everything else would just clash badly with all that glossy white.

Exactly, I can't deny that fact that there will be some really nice faceplates, but sine you have the body of the system thats a solid white......some faceplates will just look tacky. I would actually love something like a blank faceplate that you can just customize yourself (as far as drawing or spraypainting it ) :P .....that would actually rock. Other than that....customizing the front of the system seems kinda gimmicky....

I guess a real wood case would be a fire hazard, right?

It is kind of a gimmick. At least limited edition faceplates will give me a chance to make money off of chumps who are willing to pay big bucks for that type of thing, like these people http://search.ebay.com/xbox-360-face...fkrZ1QQfromZR8

Actually, the first thing that came to mind when I heard about removable faceplates was that it would make a cool tie-in for game pre-orders. I can't wait to get my limited edition Tomb Raider 17 face plate featuring half-naked Lara Croft. It will complement my home theater system perfectly.

They're trying to copy the popularity of skins and fancy cases for iPods.

It might work but people will handle an iPod a lot more often than a console, not to mention always be in a position to show it off.

One thing is the X360 with wireless controllers and the ability to turn off from the wireless controller or the optional remote, you can just leave it on the rack.

The PS3, if they do it like the PS2, you can't power on or off remotely so you will have to have it closer to you, like on a coffee table.

So X360 has more of a need to blend in with other AV components while the PS3 may not.
