Default C'mon you slacktards!

I'm number 1, and you're not.

Nobody's even on the horizon for another 150 days or so. Certainly you louts can do better. I'm not even trying.

My dog could fold better than three of you put together!

the only way to catch Russ is to fold on 10PC's and even than wait a year before you catch up (or some such) CMAN is coming in 150 days so I assume his is catching up nicely... heh.. I'll be there in precisely 861 days so less tyhen 3 years at this rate... not bad I thought it will take me 10

and I just entered top 50

You should fold if you are not Digi. It's great we you take over other people.

As far as I know, I have 4 boxes.

A 3.0HT GHz p4 (running on 1/2 the processor)
A 500 Mhz P3
A 1700+ XP
A 2400+ XP

I could turn one off so even the 3 legged cat across the street would pass me, but that isn't the point, is it?

Russ - why do you think the HT unit is running on 1/2 the processor?

It shows up in the task manager as 50%.

You can install a second account and run that in another user account with Fast User Switching on XP. That way you'll have two folding units going on and 100% processor utilization.

I'm not sure it will gain much.

This is a HyperThreaded CPU so what is happening is Windows is aware of the two state engines, but doesn't realise that there is only one execution block backing those two engines up. One F@H core will reside in one of the state engines, but will probably utilise nigh on 100% of the CPU resource, but because it is only occupying one state engine, Windows interprets that as only utilising 50% of the execution capabilities.

If that's the case, what's the point of HT then? :?

http://www.beyond3d.com/reviews/inte...index.php?p=16

Its basically there to "fill in the gaps". Most app's won't fill up all of the stages in a processor 100% of the time, leaving cycles going to waste; when you compound that with the extremely long pipelines of modern P4's the number of potential lost execution cycles increases even further. By having two state engines keeping two threads / apps in context at any one time the processor can effectively "interleave" the two threads over the execution units with, hopefully, the second thread utilising any spare execution blocks that aren't currently being used by the first thread - hopefully geting closer to the maximum potential processing capability of the CPU.

The question is, how efficient is a single F@H core in the first place - if it is quite efficient in the first place, adding a second won't achieve too much overall, if it isn't efficient then adding a seconf will.

I don't know what type of calc's go on in F@H - does it require a lot of branching?

Hmm. Some things I've found searching.

Folding@Home FAQ

Quote:
I have an SMP. Why doesn't the Folding client do multi-threading so I can use both CPUs?

It doesn't have to. If you have two CPUs, simply start up the console client in a second directory and (on Windows or Mac) specify -local when invoking the client code. This is a teeny bit of added work, but distributed computing is so ideal, this is just as efficient as a multi-threaded client. Multi-threaded clients are more work for the projects' authors and provide no performance advantages at all. So, they tend not to be provided.

You should not simply copy the first directory to start up the second copy. It should be installed by copying the code and answering the questions over again at the first invocation.
After doing some more searching I've read reports of anywhere from a 10%-30% increase in unit output when using two CLICs on a HT processor.

Maybe it's time for a benchmark dave?

I quit after going from 100+ to 20 or 21 I think. I quit because the folding website said it costs me $.36 a day. That's a good case a beer a month and I can't have that.
