Default Ok, what's the deal with this folding crap?

It's been years since I actively had my systems folding, what does B3D fold for and how do we know it really is used for that? (Yeah, I'm paranoid. )

I'm not just ranting, if some regulars here tell me it's a GOOD THING and something I should be doing I'll set it up and have all my rigs working it.

What are proteins and why do they "fold"? Proteins are biology's workhorses -- its "nanomachines." Before proteins can carry out their biochemical function, they remarkably assemble themselves, or "fold." The process of protein folding, while critical and fundamental to virtually all of biology, remains a mystery. Moreover, perhaps not surprisingly, when proteins do not fold correctly (i.e. "misfold"), there can be serious effects, including many well known diseases, such as Alzheimer's, Mad Cow (BSE), CJD, ALS, Huntington's, and Parkinson's disease.

Treatment Found for 2 Heart Ailments
By SANDRA BLAKESLEE
or the first time, researchers have found a way to treat two deadly heart ailments that are
caused by a protein that folds into an abnormal shape.
Although the treatment is tailored to the two forms of heart disease, it is based on
principles that may lead to similar therapies for other conditions caused by misfolded
proteins, including Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, adult-onset diabetes and the
human form of mad cow disease....

and you have 4 PC's that could fold 24/7 that would boost the current lethargic team output quite a bit...
