04/09/2002- Update

If you want high resolution textures for use with quake, Doom2Alive started up a high resolution texture project here. If you are an artist and feel like making some textures please submit to this project.
Willi Hammes is working on a level for tenebrae using qeRadiant that uses all new textures with bump maps. See the screenshots below for an example.
Screens of the next version (to be released soon): 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7
This version supports:
-Automatic light extraction. (no dark maps anymore)
-Animation interpolation
-Better particles
-Reflective surfaces: water, mirrors, glass,... (You will need at least a geforce6 for that to run fast. )
-Over bright lights (Glares around lights, see the halo2 movie )
Awesome pics from that test map:

Put it simply, the vis-patch is the thingie with the help of which the water with tenebrae will be transparent and won't look weird.

You can download it here:
http://www.3ddownloads.com/?file_id=154230

The install process is pretty simple: Just extract everything in the archive to a folder inside your quake dir and run the included install.bat file, that's all mentioned in the readme.txt there.

Keep one thing in mind, I couldn't get it to do anything with WinME, but in WinXP, everything worked fine.

Note: That vis-patch is only for the original quake maps, missions packs, etc... need a seperate vis-patch.

Now all we need is a skeletal animation system in Quake 1, and there will be no need for DOOM3.

Hierarchical Skeletal Animation with vertex blending, that's rather easy to do.

(I know, I did)

Can anyone even get this to run on a Radeon 8500? It just locks my machine.

Yes I do using Catalyst 2.2
No problem except a strange wall transparency thingy ^^
